Default single vs double roller

For a fairly mild build, is it recommend to upgrade to a double roller timing set?

IMO, it's not necessary at all.

LS 2 chain on your stock gears, Avon pro gear single, C5R are all decent options.

Well the stock gears I have are off a very abused high mileage 5.3 so kinda sketched out on reusing them. I saw a set on TSP (I think cloyes) with a ZO6 chain. Can I use the complete LS2 set or something comparable

C5R chain is high but you'll have a peace of mind.

Ls2 chain will be sufficient. Can't go wrong with a nice double roller though...I got a JP double roller..nice piece.

Like this JP ? What are the brackets for ? Can a complete set made for LS2 fit gmoutdoorsman's 5.3 or my LS1 ?

How bad would it be to re-use my LS1 chain ?

Yup thats the one. Pretty sure JPs are the same as rollmaster. I think the brackets you are referring to, the little triangular and rectangular shaped things, are the shims. They give you a little more clearance between the oil pump and chain. I'm 99% sure that LS2 stuff will on a 5.3, It will work on an LS1. This is a quote from Sales4@Texas-Speed regarding the LS1 chain "LS2 timing chains are stronger then stock LS1 timing chains. LS1 timing chains are known to stretch over time so its not a bad idea to replace the stock chain with the LS2. For only 42 dollars I feel that it is definitely worth the time as you are already down there doing the work anyway. You can buy aftermarket chains for not that much more money but for someone on a budget looking for a decent chain on a mild build it is a good deal".

I kinda get the feeling gmoutdoorsman is building on a engine stand. For him, it's a no-brainer.
I will be installing behind the shed, engine in a car without a working oil pressure gauge, 1/2" between the pan and the steering rack, first time cam install. I'm worried about getting the pick-up tube O-ring in without pinching it.
I'm trying not to his thread so this question on his behalf: Is the double roller better because the extra chain link in the middle reduces stretch ?
When a timing chain stretches does the cam advance or retard ?

Single roller has only one chain, like so:

Double roller has two chains:

What,s peace of mind about with that!

I broke one of those, lots of damage.

Peace of mind is Cloyes hex a just with extreme C5R chain & LS2 damper fitted, if not drilled for damper use the Trick Flow bracket.
I now have 'PEACE OF MIND'

Were you running the ATI damper at that time?

For budget reasons I think I've settled on an LS2 timing set. $110 (TSP) should be plenty durable for my fairly mild 347 build
