Engine Build - Going Turblowed
Slugs -.006 out of the hole---iron blocks deck height at 9.23"
.051 gasket
61.15 cc for the stock 5.3 chambers
I came up with 9.49. Close to the factory rating.
Guessing 8 cc instead with the pistons at zero deck also came up
about the same, as I've not personally measured one.
So just replacing the heads with a 64.45 chamber knocked it down
to a boost friendly 9.15
You might as well just put the LS9 gaskets on now w/ studs...
Using 9 cc for piston dish

.All that's left with the build is to bolt the intake up, hook up wire harness, bolt up trans and drop her in.
Managed to get the remaining parts of the engine together and into the car!
Primed it while it was on the lift to get oil flowing, sounded good trying to start.
We're going to start it tomorrow and hope for the best!
Videos will be posted soon.

That's great. Glad to hear it. Looking forward to the video.
Since the weather didn't cooperate yesterday, we started it today!
Last item is the steering knuckle which I forgot and the torque arm.
Going to assume the P0300 code is normal since I'm using a 5.7 tune instead of 5.3?
Initial Start
Second Start

Curious on what fuel I should be running in the car now that it's a lower compression. We're guessing its around 9:1, so should I still be running 93octane or am I just wasting my money?
Thanks,
Jordan

Got to drive the car again for the first time in a month and I fell in love all over again. Have a few items to still work on; dead o2s, front sway bar and tune.
Overall she did great on her first voyage. Feels about the same as my LS1 power wise which is what I was hoping for.

Finally got the exhaust put on, X Pipe dumped before the axels. Had my local tuner make it more driveable and I'm amazed how well it still hauls *** for being a 5.3 with a baby cam.
Will get some dyno numbers soon as well as some videos.

Due for an oil change here shortly. Up to about 300 miles on the engine so far.
Any tricks to quite the valve train noise?
Anything else I should go over after the oil change as well?

Good to know, first cam car. The butt dyno says she's pretty quick, waiting on a few more miles to throw her on the real dyno though.
Those are pretty good numbers for a 5.3 with low compression. The torque is what points to that; but man when you hit the giggle gas, that stock trans/converter are going to hate your guts......
I'd bet the hundred shot goes to 500/500 range......

Selling the giggle gas for turbo setup. Should be within the next month I'll have it ready to install.
Hi, when using 5.3 what did you use for your valley pan 5.3 or 5.7 . Do you have a pic of it? The reason I ask I just got a 5.3 and there are no knock sensors in the 5.3. I havn't pulled it apart yet -20 cold ill take the rain any day

Look at 4th picture. That's where the knock sensors are. I used my 5.7 valley cover as they were the same
