Default Best ATI Damper for me?

I currently have a 25% underdrive powerbond...

However since I am looking for big boosted power out of this 370" motor...

I think i might as well upgrade to the ATI....

I might be adding AC down the road but not until i am consistently running in the 8's and maxing out my 12 point cage

Any recommendations on what ATI damper would be best and what belt I will need?

This is a for a stock F-Body font accessory drive with power steering.

All steel full size version, the ac pulley is removable so you can add it and take it off later if you wish..

UD pulleys don't dampen as well as the full size version, also the all steel version is the heaviest and will dampen the best out of all of them.

You're timing chain will thank you for it

should probably look into pinning the hub also. not sure what the threshold is for when you need it, but it seems to be recommended for FI

I called Rob at ATI today and he recommended a full size ALUMINUM

with the kit to pin it to the crank

He said a STEEL super damper would be better if I was running circle track and having rocks slung at it...

But for a street / track drag race car a Aluminum would be the way to go.

Any reason why you guys above recommended a STEEL damper?

I will be driving a few 1000 miles a year on the street...but no gravel roads..

Have that many guys ruined Aluminum dampers on the street?

not because of gravel lol

Steel is more durable for daily driving and it will dampen better than a lighter aluminum!

I've talked to all the guys at ATI and get different responses every time I called lol

I myself just bought an ATI. Steel hub with an aluminum shell. It'll be perfectly fine. It's what's INSIDE that counts.

I had a friend who ran aluminum under drive pulley set up on a SB and street drove it all the time. After a while the water pump pulley was worn through by the back side of the belt. Do these aluminum dampers that are driven regularly on the street have this problem?

idk, but aluminum doesn't sound too durable for daily driving abuse..

Aluminum getting hot for a prolonged time doesn't sound durable.. At the track yes, since most runs last 10 sec or so

you guys realize the asp and some other underdrives use an aluminum shell as well correct? I have been running my ati for 5 years and 30k miles and its never skipped a beat. Anyone who is running a 10% underdrive ati has the alum shell, only the standard size comes in steel. no worn out pulley grooves or belts on mine after all that time

The standard size steel is going to work the best...the aluminum will work also. But I would go with standard all steel.

The heavier steel dampens better than lighter material. If the aluminum was truly better stock vehicles would have them....yeah the aluminum is lighter but doesn't do its job as we'll as the steel. This is what burken01 said up top also.

Lol wut? The material used on the shell has little to do with dampening. If you want to call the standard size dampener better that's fine. However it's because it physically has more surface area. The actual dampening material is inside the balancer. They actually don't like selling the ati 25% ud because it diminishes performance by not having enough material to effectively dampen. Nothing about material, that came from a rep at ATI not from an Internet site.

Does anyone here talking about the aluminum voodoo actually own an aluminum pulley let alone an ati? Like I said that came from an ati rep 5 years and 30k miles ago on my car. Yeppp, I think I'm gonna keep running my apocalypse aluminum shell and wait for it to explode lmao

Also as I said asp has used aluminum for years. They did have issues but none were related to the material they used. They're on thousand of cars today and I have yet to hear of a belt wearing through the pulley lol
