Default fast 102 or cam install

Working towards h/c/I heads will be last since itll be the most pricey but which should come first between getting a fast 102 with all the fixings that go with it. Or go with the cam first?

If you already have all the necessary bolt-ons, then I'd most certainly do cam first. You're going to gain much more with a cam swap. Save up and do a FAST 102 or other intake later down the road.

S60 with 4.10, adjustable panhard, Subframe connectors, Koni shocks, stage 2 clutch, slp long tubes and catback, strange driveshaft, volant cold air, 320 fuel pump.... might be forgetting a couple things but thats about it I believe.

Cam all the way. You'll enjoy it much more than a new intake!

Usually, the progression for these NA LSx builds is either heads/cam, or cam only. Typically, people will then add either heads or intake, or both. One upside to doing everything at once is that you will only need one tune. If you do the cam swap now, you'll obviously need a tune, and then if you add an intake later down the road, you'll need a re-tune. Even if you only added the FAST 102 now, you'll still need a tune, so in my opinion, the best bang for the buck is to put a cam in it now, have fun with it, and save your money for the intake.

Yeah thats the big downside of not having enough money for it all now is that I know im gonna have to keep getting retuned after each add on

Usually if you go to the same shop for your re-tune they will only charge you a touch-up tune for an intake install, usually ~$150.00. After adding heads your probably going to be charged another full tune rate. I would check first...another $400-$600 could pay for about 1/3 of the cost for new heads. Might be worth it to save longer.

What cam are you going with? Just wondering cuz I'm doing a little budget top end rebuild and I have a XR275 with that FAST but was maybe thinking about the texasspeed 228. It's tough cuz I wanted to save $$ and get some new wheels. Have fun with the upgrades!

Why the ms4? What are you build plans and specs? A lot of people look for the biggest nastiest cams they can and then pick that.....Dont be that guy

I'll go against the grain and say do the 102 first. I think doing all the supporting mods first is better than throwing heads/cam in and leaving power on the table. I have seen too many times where guys dyno their heads/cam cars and don't get a number they want while others say 'well, if you had a FAST/UDP/better exhaust etc you'd pick up XX rwhp.' Do the proper bolt ons first and you won't have this problem. You're already in the right direction going for a 102 over a 92. As others have stated you'll have to do two tunes if you do cam first then the 102 or vice versa but really the only way to get out of having to pay for two tunes is either tune yourself or have everything installed at once.

Cam first you will enjoy more.

Same time do valve springs, truunion rocker upgrade, pushrods.

Be wise, fit Cloyes hex a just gear set & extreme duty C5R or Hinson C7R timing chain with LS2 damper & trickflow bracket if blocks not drilled.

ATI super damper & H/Pressure not 'HV' ported oil pump while it can be gotten at.

H/Performance engines are not cheap!

A 228 just didnt seem that big of a bump and I havnt seen much on anything between people going with a 228 and a ms4 or a cam with similar specs. And I had contemplated a 92 but I dont wanna get it and later on think what if I had gone with a 102 instead. I planned on doing the springs pushrods and timing chain with the cam, hadnt looked much into rockers. Didnt think about messing with em until swapping the heads.

Big eneough bump from what? Again what are your specs now and goals? A 228 cam is a huge bump if your stock. And an ms4 will drive like crap in a 346 and make a terrible power curve without REALLY good heads, compression, and gears/big stall

Yeah its a stock cam now. And heads are on the way. Just doing things in step. I have 4.10 gears in a s60 and its an m6. Goals are trying to get at least 450 to the wheels. Or low 11 high 10s in the quarter
