its for this reason that I just pulled the tranny out when I went to pull my engine. It was 500000 times easier to get the tranny off the block once it was out of the car and it will be 5000000000000000000 times easier to get it back on when it comes to install time. I pulled my motor/tranny out the top but did remove the hood just for safe keeping (the car was going to sit for a while and I had to do a lot of welding/grinding/etc (no need to clime around under a hood that I could hit my head on).

Thanks for the pics!!! They really show alot of good info! One question though..... what kind of ceiling clearance would you say you've needed to successfully to pull the motor out like this? That would be the only thing I can think of that would stop me from switching to this method.....

That is nine foot ceilings in the picture. Eight foot would be enough but you might have to take off the air tubes and oil dipstick ETC... to get it to clear. It also depende on what method you use to roll the motor out from under the car I made a cart specifilly for that after doing it so many times and the cart is really tall I would say it is 8-10 inches tall at least. But you could use two floor jacks and it would be adjustable ETC... I think with the jacks yo would still be able to get it out with eight foot ceilings easy. I left the hood on and it could be removed for more clearance ETC... I just tried to imit what I have to take off so you would have to do the same for your place you are working. jrp - after many a searches regarding pulling the motor, i said the same thing... I'll just take it from the top. Mark my word, it's going back in from the bottom.

Thanks for the compliments guys. I agree with Pimp_Nas_T that it seems like it would be a lot more work but it really is not. You can either fight the car or get it out of the way.LOL! I chose to move the car out of the way. Cannibal I'm sure you can do it just fine. I did make some thing to help with this but only because I was doing it more and more so I did make a few things to help the rear stands are from our show car days, but ramps will do and the cart is steel with a piece of plywood and good casters (Thanks Home Depot). Well the hoist make life a lot easier too. I wish I could swing a lift maybe in a few years.

lol. maybe i'll just install it as a shortblock and then put the heads and tranny in :dunno:. i dont see how it could be that hard, but i guess i'll find out
