Default New cam WITHOUT a stall????

So my brother has a stock b4c 2001. He's going with an On3 76mm turbo build. He doesn't have a ton of money so he's on a budget build. Is there any cam he can use that will NOT require a stall. Preferably one that's aggresive sounding. Thanks!

Why bother? If he wants a bit more power, add another pound of boost.

Keep it cheap, keep it simple and have fun. It's easier that way.

Realistically, he will gain MORE from a STALL than he will a mild cam on his setup. So it really doesn't matter what cam will work without a stall, he should put a nice tight stall in it first instead. Then add a cam later. The turbo kit is more than capable of blowing up the engine, trans and rear end without any help. So just add some more boost to compensate until he can build everything else around it.

That being said, a GT2-3 could be done, and it's made for boost. OEM Z06 cam. There's a list that can go on. But really, why bother?

He wants the "hot rod" idle sound.

If hes on a budget build then why is he trying to do a turbo build? I understand they can be cheap but I'm sure you know by your sig that the little stuff in turbo builds gets real expensive real quick. In short though no the idle sound comes from duration and lsa which means overlap. Overlap means loss of driveability and low end power. He needs a stall for any cam thats going to have a lobe

A stock stall will probably blow as soon as you boost it. That's a stupid idea. Grab something with a triple disk or a single with a billet front cover at least.

He probably also needs to beef up his trans. And rearend.

The general did a GREAT job overengineering this car /sarcasm/

Almost everything is **** and will blow up. There is no way to do fast and cheap on this car. The shortblock can handle some power, but that's it.

And the hotrod idle can be done with a stock cam. It's all in the tune. But most turbo friendly cams don't sound crazy either as that's not ideal for making power on boost.

He could run our 224r cam on a 114lsa. It work work for the turbo build, have a somewhat aggressive sound and work with the stock stall. It's a 224/224 .581/.581 114lsa. I'd like to see him run a stall but it would work anyway.

You're not going to get a hot rod idle with the type of cam that works with both a turbo and the stock stall.

Do you HAVE to replace the rod bolts? What happens if you do not?

I wouldn't. That's a good way to spin a bearing if you don't resize the rods.

We have several camshafts that will offer good drive ability and work with the O.E. converter with that aforementioned muscle car idle. We have some good choices avail. Keep in mind a camshaft is going to require more parts to work properly.

camshaft swap parts list.

camshaft
timing chain(if miles are low, upper sprocket for a budget build)
camshaft bolts
lifters(mileage dependent)
valve spring kit
1 piece hardened pushrods (of the correct length)
head gaskets and head fasteners if the heads are coming off to install the springs and check piston to valve.

We have these parts in stock ready to ship.

It's a good idea to put a fresh set of plugs and wires on it before it goes to the dyno shop for tuning.
