Default what do you think of this cam and engine setup?

Pretty basic 6.0l lq4 build but havent been able to find much for others running a similar camshaft. Build is as follows...
2003 lq4
799 heads with 10thousandeths cleanup mill
felpro stock 6.0l head gasket
long tube 1 7/8 headers
comp cam custom grind 223/229 617/627 113lsa
texas speed 7.4 pushrods
trunion upgrade
ls6 intake
stock ls1 throttle body for now but will be upgrading in future
stock ls1 injectors but pretty sure im gonna have to go bigger

So what do you guys think of those cam specs with everything else and what do you think itll put down?

Going in a 71 nova with a t56 and 4.11 gears

I thnk it would run fine. However with only 0 overlap you could go bigger and not lose anything. If you want genuine stock drivebability but with more power then consider something like a 226/234 113+3 which has 4 degrees of overlap, again if you dont care how it drives buts till want streetable then a 230/238 113+3 would be awesome as well. Those cams will be ground with around .600 lift. The extra lift in the grind you picked doesnt really do much for stock castings since they're all out of steam at .600 anyway, if you ported them then the extra lift would help more.

Any of those cams will like that 4.11 gear more than the one you selected. My other suggestion is at that point I would mill the heads .020 and run a thinner gasket. The lq4 compression is already low and although the 799's will help youre still around 10:1. The .020 mill and thinner gasket will push that up to ~11:1 and wake the cam up more. The first cam should fit no problem with that setup the other one should also but I would check ptv at that point most certainly.

i told the guy who spec'ed it that i definetely didnt want to flycut the pistons so thats probably why he went that route.

ya but even so thats srill a tiny cam and theres power left on the table with no real downside. if you didnt mill the heads right now the 230/238 would fit in there no problem. i was saying to check if you knowcked .020 or .030 off of them

Yeah i understood what you meant, sorry that my response didnt. Wish i would have had them milled more looking at it now.

O well if it comes apart again i will have them milled and go bigger cam wise at that time.

Mill the heads more, thinner headgasket = more compression and better quench.

Both of which are highly beneficial and you still will have plenty of PTV with that small cam. Plus your pistons are dished so that helps compared to flat tops.

ya I would have the heads milled def to get some power back. I'm not sure why he spec'd such a high lift though on that cam given the rest of your setup. If it could be done all over I'd up the overlap a few degrees, take lift down a smidge and mill the heads. In the end that motor would make more power and drive the same if not better

Basically the same engine setup I built for a procharger. It will sound good and probably be all a set of street tires will handle with those 4.11's in the back. Should be fun and still get decent mileage with a small converter.

Yeah, it's on the small side, but still a good cam that will produce tons of low and mid range (useable) power in a street setup. I agree with redtan about milling the heads and optimizing compression and quench. With a good tune and a proper setup valve-train, you'll be good to go.
