i like the idea of manual. hate the idea of forking over 3-5 grand. tranny>built>new fly>new clutch

so if im mistaken a th400 (priced at 1500) rated at 700trq with transbrake and a mvb is only going to rob me of power? (assuming i get the correct and adequate converter with it??)

Yes. You can get other tranys to handle the same power for the same money. And they weigh less and take less hp to turn. You could build a th350 to handle your power. We used powerglides in our drag cars but you want a street car with more than 2 gears. Maybe look into a 700r4. I know lots of cars running them with good power and no problems.

Plans are for a weekend warrior street car that, if i love enough will daily.

so off a quickie search

700r4 in the 240 or rx7 didn't come up with many hits. (odd shaped looking tranny imo)
checked out the 350 im not opposed to it but i think some fabb'n may be required.. think i'm going to take the less stressful route and get the t56 built and done with.. seems like the simpler more basic route.

Just curious if you're aware on how much compression you will have with them pistons and 243s? It'll be north of 14:1

And with the manual and automatic thing its really not that much more, Unless you plan on putting a cheap converter in the car by the time you get a cooler, Tranny, Converter, Build on the tranny.
