Default Lq4 Build questions

So I was going to swap a Lq9 into my 99 formula ws6 however i was able to get my hands on a lq4 for 200 bucks so that's the route i'm going. My question is, since my car will be N/A for its foreseeable future should i swap my ls1 853 heads over to the car and bump the cr to about 10.25 to gain the extra hp. or leave the 317's on it and swap in a cam to make up for the roughly 45 hp deficit? I'm also trying to keep this on a tight budget as i have other parts i need to replace and it will only be a dd. I've got about $1100 dollars to play around with but don't necessarily want to spend it all haha. thoughts and general opinions would be greatly appreciated!! thanks in advance!!

You can get the 317 heads milled to bump up the compression ratio and gain some power.

Most guys go .035 to .050 ....... then you'll have to recheck your pushrod length.

Where are you coming up with the 45hp deficit? An LQ4 is tuned for 87 octane, an LS1 for 91 octane, going to be a nice chunk of power there. The LS1 intake will hurt a little though.

With your budget I might mill the heads a little and retune. That would result in a nice power gain.

The 45 hp deficit I was referring to is between the LQ9 and LQ4 due to the dished pistons and lower cr in the LQ4 (if im not mistaken).

From what I've read ill give up a little torque with the ls1 intake but gain some hp, no?

but that sounds like the way I'm most likely to go.

Gm rated the LQ4 at 325 horses and the LQ9 at 345 hp.

Where Is The 45 Hp Difference?

Tune is probably a bigger part of that than compression.

The LS1 intake is just a step backwards from the truck. The car guys will tell you how terrible the truck intake is but that is just not the case. The truck intake is closer to the LS6 intake than LS1.
