The pics I posted are a 317 head. The ports are the same as an ls6 243/799 head.

moving on with life got up this morning and started back on the exhaust port .as you can see in the picture what I have done was take off the ridge of the exhaust port seat with my deburr bit.I just kind of worked my way from the outside edge on to the center.the exhaust port is extremely shallow compare to the intake port so you really have to be careful and it really doesn't take much time to remove the material compare it to the intake port.

I finally found the time to work on my heads so in this section here I'm just going to talk about the work that I'm doing on my exhaust port.I messed up a little bit because I didn't take pictures of me mocking up the exhaust port with the oem exhaust gasket.

As for the swirl ramp , when I get ready to do mine I plan to do something similar to what you have done . I'm going to pull it back and tuck a portion of it behind the valve guide boss. But going to leave more of the vertical ramp, not going lay it back so much .

All in all looks like a very good job , you should be pleased with the results. Please post numbers if get them on a flow bench. Are you going to run stock valve sizes ?

thanks man I really appreciate it. this is my first set of heads that I have ever ported. I've never ported any heads before until now.I think what helped me do such a good job. was being extremely cautious and very paranoid of damaging the heads lol.I definitely plan on having these heads flow tested .as far as the stock valve size I'm thinking about maybe upgrading to some bigger valves.I'm really not sure yet. I want to be able to head on 6.0 short block if I am ever lucky to find one. but now this would be on my 4.8 which I plan on running a turbo

well right now I finally managed to make it to the second head.just as shown before right now I'm just working on the little Vertec Ridge that's at the very beginning of the intake port the color lines that you see scribbled is exactly how I approach when it comes to removing materials those are my lines I move my deburr bit in that emotion maybe a lot better than illustrated.

now that I pretty much have completed that for all four intake ports. I'm on to the next part of the intake port that needs attention and that part will be the hump that's to the far bottom left of the intake port.now normally if these heads will turn up in their normal position it would be the upper right corner. but since they're upside down they appear to be on the bottom left of the ceiling of the intake portsI just want to make that clear.

this is how it looks after the hhas been removed. now there was nothing that would help restrict flow.to be honest with you guys I really don't know how much flow you will gain from removing this hump but I do know that it is necessary.

I'm removing a lot of material from the swirl ramp this is where you really have to take your time .I really can't stress that enough needless to say even though I've just done this with the other .head I'm still nervous because this can make or break the port job. take your time find your groove focus and stay consistent.now if you really want to be very cautious you can do this with a sandpaper roll 60 grid it.may take a little bit lon but the port would be very clean that's for sure

now I'm at the point to where I need to take a break.from this point I'm going to study the trait of the intake fuel bowl .what I'm looking for is imperfections impossible shallow parts of the port and I simply do this by grabbing a flat tip screwdriver and rub it slow and gentle up and down the port where I remove the material at.particularly on the swirl ramp reason being I don't want to mess up the head.no small hoes need ro created.

things are starting to take shape but I still have a lot to do with these two ports I still have to get rid of all the extra casting I have to smooth out the transition of the port and also I have to slightly level out the port floor.this is good for me for today I will pick up on a later day

I had a very very close call here right when you see the little circle well my bit on me as I was taking down the material.as a result it took out quite a bit of material that made it an even from the rest of the port.so I had to basically make this port the standard model for the other three ports.this is what they call the radi or turn back. something like that but this is an area. This where you can pick up cfm its worth anywhere from 5 to 10 CFM.
