Default Are people still having issues with Comp 918's??

I've been w these LS engines for a while.. Since 2002, and I've been out of the game since 2012... now I'm back in it. I ordered some GMPP LS6 Blues from Summit for my truck to run my Stock '00 Camaro Cam. I paid extra for the 2nd day air shipping and I expected them today. they didn't come in so I checked the email and it said they weren't expected to ship till the 18th now.. PITA.... So I'm not happy.. And I'm looking for alternatives.

I'm only running a stock spring and from what I gather the stock LQ4 springs are garbage at best. the 918's are right in line with what I'm looking for but I heard a LOT of horror stories about them in the early LS days.

I hate dealing with valve springs. I measured my stockers at 1.211 diameter and 2.102~ (on the bench.. not installed) The 918's measure 1.075" OD. Is that smaller of a spring that big of a difference? Would they work OK on early 873 iron LS heads? Do people still have issues with these springs breaking? or was that just from rapid ramp rate cams?

lol..

I would never use 918 springs... Just go with Tooley Racing Platinum springs (just about everyone here does) with steel retainers. It's a high quality spring kit for a great price: http://www.briantooleyracing.com/

^ Those Pac Beehives are more of what I'm looking for. This is a stock setup and I don't plan on doing a cam so a set of Racing springs is a little bit overkill.

I saw SDPC has the GMPP LS6 Blues, so I'm going to call them monday and see if they physically have them in stock or if they're on backorder. I really would hate to have this thing torn apart for two more weeks waiting for springs, but they're right in line with what I'm doing.

nothing wrong with the newer 918's. I had a set on my car for 15k mi...granted it was just a stock cam with 1.85 rockers.

I am just wrapping up my H/C/I install. Using Pac duals with Ti retainers.

Why should everyone follow your ignorance?

The 918s had a problem briefly a long time ago when Comp switched to an offshore manufacturer, THE END.
The LS6 springs he wanted were a good choice for this, 915s would be good too. 918s are probably easiest to find fast and would do perfectly, overkill but reasonably so

Suggesting a dual spring based on blind brand loyalty and zero thought or comprehension is irresponsible.

The PAC spring the other poster listed would be good too.

Don't get me wrong BT sells good products but one poster here is trying to suggest the wrong one for this application.

If one wants to buy from Brian he has several beehive options that would be perfect.

I agree with 96caprice here. That issue was short. Yes it was catastrophic, but none the less.

Scorpion had issues in the past as well, no where NEAR as bad as Yella Terra, yet everyone dropped them like a bad habit. I'm not aware of a SINGLE failure of their new rocker arms.

Brian has about everything you'd want if that's who you want to go through. The 918's are a good spring. I'm partial to PAC myself, but that's just me.

I put 918's in recently. no issues so far, but that might not be long enough service to satisfy your question. ABOut 1,000-1,500 miles

Right on guys... thanks.. And yes this is what I was asking, more-less. When did they have the problem and why, and has it been resolved... but I have a tendency to ramble.
