on a side note, does anyone have any idea how fast SLP makes them ramp rates? the might be an interesting cam in a stock CI/good head engine.

SLP headers do tend to hang low, if you are lowered I would suggest another brand, say Hoooker, etc or you will scrap/bang them up pretty good. Not sure if someone told this or not, I didn't want to read the whole 3 pages worth of stuff

lol...then I guess I saved your buddy's life by you not going crazy when the car didn't run right

SLPs tend to be a little low to the ground so keep that in mind. I have Hookers, and a bunch of my friends have JetHots (same as Hookers) and we all love them (I wouldn't pay $0.50 more for anything else)!

if I were to give you a plan, it would be:

Get the headers now and start saving money up for LS1Edit (or a tune). Once you have the money (say $600) for your tune, if your not going to buy LS1Edit put the money aside and dont touch it (forget it.....compleatly). If your going to buy LS1Edit and tune yourself then go ahead and buy it because it will let you tweak the setup some, get more HP out of your basic mods, and then by the time you get around to the cam you will have a pretty good idea of how the system works. THEN you can say "now I want a cam, how much money do I need to get my cam. Then you can go with whatever you want and will be happy with it.

FWIW - I did heads/cam (PP s2, TSP 225) before headers/catback...the car is much quicker now...

In addition to the cam and valve springs you still need gaskets and should change pushrods. You WILL either need to buy LS1Edit ($550 for that) or pay someone $500+ to tune your car with the cam. Then what about the lifters, the oil pump, Ti retainers, a new timing set, head bolts for when you remove the heads to change the lifters, etc. If the cam swap is done "right" (to me, do it all or dont do it) its going to be quite a bit more $$$ than the headers and you still don't have headers and good heads to get the most out of the cam.
yup, really!

I just ordered a cam pkg from TSP>$600 bucks shipped and thats with pushrods 'n' springs/ti retainers. My low mileage vehicle dosen't need an oil pump, chain or lifters. No shop in their right mind would take the heads off if they didn't need too...and I won't either (and it will still be done right). A cam may or may not need a tune...did you see that thread about getting your idle without tuning or drilling, thats free...

I was looking at FLP headers...1200 bucks, so there you go-my original quotation of 'half the cost' stands.

Unfortunately, my money bags are filled with pennies (that I keep in my trunk for traction).
