Default 317 home hand porting gone bad?

I am porting a set of 317 heads. I have watched several videos on you tube and practiced on a set of 806 heads a little. I tried to grind down the intake rocker hump inside the intake port.I ended up re-shaping the port. I hope I didn't ruin this set of heads. What do you guys think? Are they junk or usable

Yes, they're ruined. Send them to me for proper disposal

They look like thunderstruck507 rocker boss. He's getting good results from his heads. Remember to put some RTV on the end of the rocker bolts before torqueing them for the last time or you could draw oil into the port.

I guess if worse comes to worse I could just take them to a cylinder head shop and ask
them if they are toast.

Looks pretty normal to me. Just don't shave down the valve guide... shape it.

Did you have them flowed before the porting, and are you going to have them flowed after you're all done?

they are fine...every ported head I've seen has the boss removed, as noted above you just use thread sealant (like thread locker but white and not made to hold the bolt in)

just be careful what you shape...without a flow bench it's easy to do more harm than good

I did not do the grinding on my heads, a local guy did them for me. Previously he had mildly worked on them but now that he has a flow bench he did more work. Ended up with 306cfm at .600" on a slightly oversized bore plate.

I figured that I would get them flow tested after I was done.I was worried that I made that ramp too thin.If you look close at the pictures,(number 2 )you will see that it looks like a v shape inside.I thought you were not to re-shape the port.

Looks fine to me. Just watch the coolant bump in the exhaust port if your port matching the exhaust side. You cant take material out of the top of port more than maybe 1/2 to 5/8 inch in from the end of the port or you will find coolant.

Does anyone know someone in socal that does flow testing?(san fernando valley,ca.) I
called a local shop and they said $250.00 to $500.00. I thought that was kinda pricey.

I figured just get these heads ported within reason.Don't want to spend my life on them. And I don't expect them to flow like the top porters out there.I just wanted to do this so I could learn something.

I already talked to WCCH and they are too busey these days. Valley head service gave me
the price above. I was planning to take them to WCCH for a valve job and milling at some point.
