Default Head Bolt TimeSert

Ugh...

Tonight, as I was torquing the heads on the LS1 I'm putting together, I managed to pull the threads out of one of the holes in the block.

Does anyone have a TimeSert kit for the LS1 head bolts that I could rent? Or does anyone know the part number that I need? Or where to get one cheap?

I sourced what I think is the right one, but it was $500. I could just get a new block for that.

Please, help me LS1Tech, you're my only hope....

Do what I did, buy the kits from kent moore, repair your hole then resell it. I bought mine brand new for about 300, used one insert and sold it for about the same price. They work really well too btw.

Thats a thought. I did find a couple places online that will rent it to you for ~$100. The good thing is, I'm not in a huge rush to get the motor together, so I can plan out my options a little better.

Not sure on this, but aren't the head bolt specific inserts longer than the standard insert? Might want to verify to ensure the correct one is used. Kind of a pain, but the buying and selling might be the best option. That way, you have a new setup and if another thread pulls out you would have everything to correct it.

Yeah, that what I am going to end up doing. I'm just going to bide my time and look for deals on one. Like I said before, I'm in no rush to get the motor together, so I can afford to wait and search for a deal.

Maybe check with the local dealer, I did a northstar caddy block a long time ago and I spoke with the dealer and they had the tool. I did happen to work for the ford dealer in the group but it may not make a difference.
