Default 5.3L advice

I'm looking what everyone thinks about this. I'm building a 74 nova and I found this motor and just looking for advice, I'm brand new to the LS world.

5.3L out of a 03 Tahoe with around 80k miles and not sure what tranny he has I have not seen it yet. But no harness or accessories on the motor. $1200

Thanks for the help

Sounds like fun. Are you planning to leave it pretty stock or throw some parts at it?

I haven't got it yet I'm going to go look at in a few days when I get off work. But my plan is to throw some upgrades on it. Not a 100% yet on what I will do until I get one. But I will be a fun and a good learning experience.

You'll definitely want long tube headers.

Also, double check that the truck intake manifold clears the hood. Might need to go to a LS6 or aftermarket intake. Don't go to a LS1 intake, as the truck intake flows better.

Look into a higher stall speed converter to help with acceleration. When you do the above and then get a tune, the tuner can program the converter lock accordingly, so it will still drive OK.

All that without touching the internals of the motor and you'll run well.

Yea Im going to look into some upgrades from holly I know they have a intake and throttle body and new injectors and fuel rails and I will change the cam.

What range on the stall would be good?

Stall i would look at 3200-3600 rpm range.

Cam look at the brian tooley truck stage 3 cam. Get his platnium duel valve spring kit and some of his pushrods and be golden.

If you can streach it get som 243/799 heads and have them milled 0.030" to around 59-60cc chambers.

Also that transmission looks like a 4wd 4l60e missing the transfer case.
