Default I need LS1 help ASAP

So this week I'm doing multiple things to my 2001 Camaro SS including an engine rebuild, new suspension, and rebuild of my rear diff (ford 9 inch and I didn't break it bought it that way).I am looking for help as far as information as to what I should use. I'm doing the heads, pulleys, possibly intake (has LS6 intake already), cam, headers, struts and shocks (already have Eibach springs), and rear diff rebuild (don't know what gear set is in it). Im thinking about the 102mm lsxr intake but dont know. I'm also replacing the high pressure power steering lines and fixing the A/C. My budget for all work is $8000. Any and all help is appreciated as I have no idea about this stuff and I am guessing.

So you have a budget of 8k for all this stuff plus labor?

ya 8k would be stretching it if you paid someone to do all that work. hopefullly your are doing some of it yourself

If you're doing all the work yourself and not spending any money on labor, you're budget might be enough. If you're planning on having a shop do all the work, you're budget is far off.

Having it professionally done but don't have to pay for labor I would like to stay under $8000 but can go a little over if needed. The main things I need done is the engine and rear diff rebuild, power steering lines, and shocks and struts. Anything else is a bonus. Talked to my tech and he mentioned upgrading the pulleys, heads, cam, and headers but that's it. Trying to get the most HP out of it while its torn apart with parts the will work with future upgrades.

If you go Bilsteins for the dampers and a set of eibach springs, you're around $800-$1000. Not sure what it will cost on the 9". If we assume $2K, which should be overkill, that leaves about $5K for the motor:

I would PM Tony Mamo to see what he would do for a mamofied AFR head, cam, lifter, valve springs, ported Fast 102 and throttle body package.

If that price comes in too high, start looking into ported heads from Patriot, TEA, PRC, AI, etc, which will come in at least $800 less than the mamofied heads. Then, contact Kip Fabre at cammotion, Martin Smallwood at Tick Performance, and Brian Tooley at BTR for cam/lifter/spring recommendations. Lots of vendors will do heads and cam packages, but I would only get the cam specs from one of these three good men.

FAST 102 intake and throttle and some 1-7/8 headers. Add about $500-$800 for all the gaskets, bolts, and fluids you'll need

Also, don't be afraid to get stuff off the classified forum. Lots of good deals to be had.

Having done all that, you'll have a good idea what the parts cost and you can figure the labor depending on who is doing the work.

Thanks Darth. I was thinking about kyb fully adjustables for shocks and struts and something like 220/220 or 225 for the cam andI was quoted at $500 worse case scenario for the 9" rebuild idk if that's a good thing or not. I've heard with the 102 intake you gotta change the fuel rails and shave a little off the water pump is that true?

True about the fuel rails. Not sure on the water pump.

If it's an auto, get a higher stall speed converter and go with 3.73 gears. If it's a manual, you with 4.11's

Yeah its an auto wouldve prefered a manual but arthritis is to painful for all that lol. You're the third person to suggest the 3.73 so that's more than likely what I'll be going with. Thanks again for all your help Darth.

Gear ratio is all personally preference really. All depends how you drive your car, and of course tire diameter. For some reason almost everyone thinks everyone else wants the same gear ratio without knowing or asking how the other person uses their car and what they prefer. Me personally, would never go with a 3.73 gear (3.70 in a Ford 9" case) if I were to have a stalled auto. I'd be more pleased with something along the lines of 3.42 (or 3.25 or 3.50 for a Ford 9") due to using my cars for 99% leisure street/highway cruising with approx. 26" dia. tire.

I spent $8000 on a all titanium 3.43 on my 98 Camaro and was not satisfied with the results it gave me so I definetly want to go with a different ratio this time around. I have 275/35/18 all the way around.

Just curious. What stall was being used and at what kind of power?

I honestly have no idea about the stall but it was pushing around 350hp
