With bronze guides, factor in a set of rockers.

On the other end of the spectrum if you are on more of a budget try and snag some 243 or 799 cast heads. I found some bare ones on craigslist for a steal. Send the heads to a vendor and have them cnc'd. There are plenty of guys here who have done that making over 450whp. Just my two cents.

Really the best thing to do is have everything setup around the heads that you choose, but regardless heads like the ones mentioned will always outperform the cheaper ported stock castings. Is it worth twice the cost....well only you can determine that

If you're wanting to spend the extra coin for aftermarket heads, see link below.

https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...on-inside.html

Mamo also has his 235cc version.

MMS 220s are the best heads on a LS1 347- 383, W/ 3.90 Bore, most power
With small to medium size cams providing excellent street manners
And Driveability. You want big power out of factory ported heads you
Need donkey **** sized cams at least 8-10* more intake duration +
another 2- 4* exhaust duration on top to reach close to the same power.
223*/227* for MMS 220s can reach ~480 RWHP, to reach
~460 RWHP with CNC 243s you would need at LEAST 231*/237*
which do you think would drive better on the street just cruising?

The base price of the MMS 220s is the same as the TFS215's. What would the difference be between the two?

It seems like a few years ago everyone was recommending the TFS 215's, but lately they don't come up that often anymore. Just curious why that is?

I have been doing A LOT of research on heads lately, and was curious about this. And considering the OP is looking for a great cylinder head, too, I thought he might be curious in your answer, as well.

Texas-Speed has had lots of luck with the 225 AS cast heads and they dont require aftermarket rockers. They are also one of the most affordable aftermarket castings.

The TFS 215s are very good heads, they came out several years ago
Before the AFR 215s I believe, which allot of people considered a Pickem
Between the TFS 215s at the time (kinda like Coke vs Pepsi LOL) Tony has continually, obsessively, & MonoManiacally worked
To improve the efficiency and flow at all valve lifts in all his Cylinder Heads, so the result is
His 220s out of the box outflow his previously MAMOFIED/ROMANCED
(or whatever adjective you wish to use to describe his hand perfected
Products,Heads,Intake,TB whatever) 215s. So the answer to your
Question is continual upgrade and improvement to an already
Awesome product, and outstanding customer service.
Follow his recipe (Heads,Cam,Intake,TB,Headers/Exhaust, and all the
Little details) & you will be very pleased with the results, proven time
And again going back 10+ years with LS ENGINES and many years
Prior with SBCs & BBCs.
