Default CNC LS1 or CNC LS6 heads question

Really stupid question, but if I'm going to send my heads for a stage 2 porting to any of the vendors on here, is there a difference in performance with LS1 vs LS6 heads after the port work? Don't want to waste $$$ buying LS6 heads if my LS1 heads will perform the same after porting.

It'll be about 15-20 horsepower difference. Less if you mill to get to 64 cc

Guess you need to decide if the extra cost is worth the 20 extra hp

It's worth it to me. I just didn't know the real world difference.

Yep and sending them to right porter is key as well. You could also take the money saved by using your stock heads and get a Fast intake and make roughly the same power. Just one option...

What kinda power numbers have you seen with a setup like that? I'm an A4 going with a 3800 stall, not a daily driver. So going with an aggressive cam.

I have the supporting mods, (duals, 1 7/8 kooks headers, etc.)

My '02 A4 w/ 3600 stall, stock 243's and a Torquer v3 made 416rwhp. I was running LT's with ORY though. If you get good port work done and a slightly more aggressive cam, I would think 450+rwhp would be very obtainable.

Still running the stock 10 bolt?

Still running the 10 bolt for now, but hoping to change that this winter.

Something else to consider - by the time you buy the 243 and then have them ported you might be in the price range of TFS220, which would outperform both. It would be worth pricing out anyway.

Either send yours to AI for their high compression port job or just buy some already ported 243/799s from the classifieds

The price difference between those heads is less than $200, so for that kind of money I would take an extra 10-15rwhp. Not many mods that can get you that kind of $/hp value.

Not sure yet. The car isn't a daily and sees about 50/50 street time vs strip, so I'd be ok with a bigger cam.

But haven't picked one. Just starting to put the build together in my head.

Gotcha. Just remember you'll need a steeper gear if you dont already have one if considering a big cam

Going with a 3.73 gear. Ran 12.80s at 109 with the stock torque converter and 2.73 gears and I believe that is about all I can get out of the car currently.
