Well Now... I wonder what the deal is with that?

Did you google it to see if it comes up?

Yeah, no luck though. JE hasn't bothered to email me back either. I may just call them tomorrow to see if they can help me out. If not, I can measure all the important stuff without the spec sheet.

No word from JE, but the pistons are as described. They measure 4.0560", so a 4.0600" bore will give me .004" clearance which is pretty typical of a 2618 aluminum piston. Rings are .043"/.043"/3.0mm as well and the piston does weigh 432 grams.

I was able to get the block deburred and cleaned this weekend. With the pistons all checked out, I went ahead and torque plate honed the cylinders to 4.0601" +/- .0001". With the cylinders freshly bored, it was really easy to get these cylinders honed nice and straight.

Anybody want a set of 4.060" bore stock stroke pistons? Lol.

Change of plans. Things escalated a little bit since I got the block honed and I've been hesitant to post anything. It's going to be getting a K1 forged crank, Callies Compstar rods, and custom Wiseco pistons. In fact, I already have the crankshaft...

**** just got real up in here.......
I'm assuming 1.00" piston height on a 6.125" rod ???
positive deck height around 015" and run the needed Cometic to set the desired quench..????
I suppose a 6.25" rod would fit but the .875" piston gets awfully short and the rod to stroke ratio only moves from 1.44 to 1.47
Prolly wanna keep this 440 in the 6500 max rpm range as the piston speed gets up there pretty darn high.....OUCH
I'm also thinking that a set of LS3 heads with one of your sexy valve job/bowl blend deals and a cam in the T Rex range would help knock a bit of that stupid-stroke torque off the bottom end or traction will be a faction of your imagination.....LOL

CH is gonna be about .980" and 6.125" rods; rings are going to be Total Seal .9/.9/2.0mm. Wiseco is fitting a 14cc dish so I'm using the TFS 220cc heads with 59cc chambers. This thing should have an insane torque curve and hopefully pull forever with the Hi-Ram on top.

I agree, I think it would have been fine.l as well. I just didn't plan on actually using this block for myself so I wanted it to clean up completely.

Still waiting on the rods and pistons to show up, so in the meantime I made some progress on the intake manifold. I give zero ***** about hood clearance so I'm using a Holley Hi-Ram EFI base and building my own top to hold twin Accufab 4150 throttle bodies.

Starting with 12" x 20" x 1/2" thick 6061 aluminum plate, I laid the base on it and used a punch to mark where I needed to drill my holes. I used a sharpie to outline the base for reference as well:

I used a 5/16" drill bit to drill my holes. I'll be using 1/4" flanged bolts with a nut to hold it all together, so the 5/16" hole gives you a better margin of error if the punch doesn't mark the holes perfectly. Here's where I'm at now:

The spacers are just for visual aid. I still have to decide on an air cleaner before I can drill and tap the holes for the throttle body studs and bore out the throttle openings. Different air cleaners have different throttle spacing which determines where I can place the holes. Then I just have to trim and radius the excess overhang around the plate to make it look a little better. Hopefully I can get to that next weekend.

Is this the motor you're putting those steel rockers in you posted about in the other thread?

Yep. I've already mocked them up on the TFS and checked clearance for 3/8" pushrods. Surprisingly, they barely touch but I'm going to recheck it with the bigger cam and grind a little bit out.

I haven't been able to do much for the last couple months, but I managed to make a little bit of progress this weekend between the 12 hour shifts.

Since I'm still waiting on the custom pistons from Wiseco, I started on the top end by beginning the port match of the Holley Hi-Ram. It's pretty close but needs to be opened up for the TFS 220cc heads by about 1/16".

Thanks!

I'm going to try to keep the updates coming as I open up the manifold and get the valvetrain geometry dialed in. Hopefully the pistons and rods show up soon so I can start getting the machine work knocked out to get this 4.250" crank to fit.

Can't wait to see the progress.

I was able to get my block fixed but had to go around the Shop owner and deal directly with the machinist.

Why the flat top on the plenum? Arent you worried you are giving up too much volume and intake pulse damping?

The way I understand it, more volume helps top end power at the expense of low end power. Less volume has the opposite effect. Originally, I intended to put this on a 370ci engine so I figured the low end could use the boost in power to offset what the shorter runner may do. Now that the engine has grown 70ci, I suspect that the tires would appreciate more plenum volume.

Even with the flat top I think the volume is probably pretty close to a single plane, just spread out more. I don't really know how much volume an engine like this would want but I'd rather err on the small side and tune it by adding spacers, which I plan to do when it finally makes it to the dyno. If it really wants the volume, it'll probably show big gains on the dyno when it gets it.

Hmmm, Interesting theory.

I would be curious to see how the additional spacers affect the power curve.

Will you be dynoing it for comparison purposes?

Yes, absolutely. This won't be the only top I make either.
