Yeah I don't think it will feel sluggish at all!

The valve job opened up the throat only about .020", so I still have room to make the ports a lot bigger if the engine needs it. I have a mid length runner FAST on the way so it should be able to turn some RPM.

I was seeing .640"/.645" at the valve with checking springs.

Is it bad that I voted "yes" AFTER I reviewed and read this entire thread?

The engine is finished and has found its way into the Mustang:

I originally ordered a car style FAST with the medium length runners, but somehow ended up with the truck version instead. I didn't even know this existed, but I'm glad I got it. It definitely will not fit under the hood...yet.

Still lots of work to do before firing it up but I'll be picking at it bit by bit. I think the fuel system and drivetrain are next on the To Do List, then the intake and exhaust system.

Soon kemosabe. I started it up just for a little bit to check for leaks or weird noises, but it won't idle without holding the throttle open. I'll have it tuned and on the dyno soon, so I'll update with pics, video, as well as what has changed.

So as I said, there have been a few changes. The engine ended up going into my Firebird instead of my Mustang. After the old Firebird engine broke a spring and dropped a valve, and the Camaro I bought ended up with a broken block, I had too many project cars and not enough that actually ran, so this was the quickest and cheapest way to get at least one running again.

The engine now has a set of 317 cathedral port heads and an old FAST intake that I had collecting dust in my garage. I changed the top end since the LSXRT wouldn’t fit under the hood and I couldn’t get a straight answer on if I could just swap the top shell. The cathedral stuff is FAR from ideal, but it was laying around ready to go.

All that’s left is to get a decent tune in it, tags, and break the engine in.

Just a quick update, I changed the oil at 1000 miles and the filter is still nice and clean. There's still a little bit of fine metallic dust in the bottom of the filter housing, which seems to be normal on a fresh engine, but no aluminum so at least the piston skirts aren't wearing away.

I was thinking about this build the other day. Nice!!

And reference to earlier post - 3 partially running cars do not add up to one running car do they?

Partially running is running in my book! My girlfriend tells me I just have a bunch of unfinished project cars, I tell her I have a car collection

I just know the pain of going outside expecting to drive somewhere and ending up using a fourth car to go get parts for the other three. Especially awesome when the HOA **** comes by complaining about you working on your **** in your driveway (which is allowed if you get it done or in garage before dark). Then you end up threatening ppl to either help or get the eff off your property. I'm not bitter

Works great for Jehovas Witnesses. FWIW.
