400+rwhp ls1 build
Hi everyone
I'm restoring a 1999 Trans Am to give my dad as a 65th year birthday gift. I got a thread that will have most of the build but wanted to make one for the engine in the engine section.
My plans include PRC Stage 2.5 5.3 Heads and a TSP Torquer V2 cam with the necessary upgrades needed. New oil pump, pushrods, ARP head studs, timing chain, gaskets, trunion upgrade on the stock rockers, and a FAST 92/92 Intake/TB. Plan to get it tune by Pat G in Victoria Texas and looking to reach 400+ rwhp
Currently the car has full exhaust, lid, lowered suspension and will soon add a 3600 Circle D stall. My questions are does the combo sound good for a weekend warrior/cruiser which is what I expect my dad to do with it? Is there any items that I might be missing on this build. Also when I do the engine work I want to dress the engine a bit an wanted to know if the valve and timing covers of a 99-02 5.3 engine are the same as the LS1 that way I can prep them before installation?

Looks like a solid choice to me and that combo will eclipse 400 even with an auto with no issue. I would change the tv2 though to the new tv4 cam. Its ground on milder lobes to help keep longevity of the other valvetrain parts up and will make the same if not a little more power than the tv2. If its for your dad I imagine that the less maintenance the better.

You'll clear 400 easily enough. With an auto it'll be fun to drive. Pat G is famous for taming cams. I think your dad will be very happy with it

Not at all. Don't be surprised if you still have the factory cross-hatching.
