Default Ls2 Timing chain in Ls1 issues.

So he opted to use a timing chain off the newer Silverado truck.

Is it likely to break a truck chain with 430 rwhp on a street car?

I think what the tuner meant was that the Ls2 chain uses a dampener on the ls2 block. Since the ls1 doesn't have a dampener, he's opting for the stronger truck chain. Does this sound better?

does your block have the provisions for a chain damper? Either way the LS2 should work fine...it's been used countless times on LS1's with or without a damper. My LS1 had the block tapped so I installed the Ktech LS6 damper with LS2 chain for extra piece of mind.

I ran a ls2 chain without a dampener on my LS1 at 7100 for a long time. Then on the 408 at 7200 for about 3000 miles and maybe 20 track passes never had a problem.

No, it's a 99 block with out a damper. This car will be my daily driver, at least til I get another one. So longevity of all components is my primary concern.

There were thousands of ls1 blocks produced that did not come with a damper but the block was tapped for it.

Aside from that you can still run the LS2 chain with or without one...been done countless times. If your block is not tapped, then the trick flow kit is a option if you want to install a damper.

This. Not sure what your tuner is saying but it doesn't sound correct. If you order an LS1 chain, you get the later chain which may no longer even be the "LS2" chain. I would use the Trick Flow kit if your block isn't tapped as suggested.

The shop that's building it doesn't

The shop that's building it doesn't want to put it on there, because the lS2 engine has a tensioner and a damper. He said the chain could get slack since it don't have a tensioner.

He's supplying the chain himself and is offering a bigger truck chain off a 6.0. I'm starting to think it's bullshit and I don't see why the Ls2 chain would be a problem since many.guys are using them.

I would like the ls2 chain, but it might be a bit sloppy going over the old ls1 gears in the timing set. I may just go to oreillys and buy the Cloyes Ls2 Timing set myself. Can someone please confirm that the proper set is the Cloyes C3220 and that it will fit no problems and won't have any issues running it without a damper? I don't have time to order one.

There's no over thinking here....I'm pushing $6500 on this rebuild and I can't have no fuckups or weak points. I'm getting frustrated because he's telling me one thing and you guys are telling me differently.
Find a new shop...they have no clue! Seriously...not trying to be a dick, but that is common knowledge in the LS world.

Drop the truck vs car crap, people do stupid things, hell guys have swapped on LS1 intakes that hurt power because they are like you and "know" that truck stuff has to be garbage.

My car and all my parts are there, and it's supposed to be finished tomorrow....and there's no time to go to another shop and be done before Christmas.

I was quoting what the other guy said about the ls2 chain and truck chain being the same.
