Default Give Me Your Opinions For Achieving 400HP

What's up everyone, I'm posting this to ask you guys of this amazing community can I achieve either very close to 400HP or slightly above 400HP with this list of parts. My setup currently is pretty much stock but I am in the process of upgrading my car to becoming really just a simple daily driver that can put down some good power for a car that just turned 17 years old. It is a 99' Trans Am WS6, A4, LS1. 116K miles. To anyone who replies and gives their opinions/suggestions, I really appreciate it.

(List Of Parts I Have So Far)
* LS1 ASP Racing 25% Underdrive Crank / Alternator Pulleys w/Crank Bolt & Belts (Ordered)
* SLP LS1 Smooth Bellow (Installed)
* SLP Loudmouth 2 Exhaust (Planned on converting to Borlamouth with XR-1 Muffler)
* Borla XR-1 Muffler
* OBX 1-3/4" Headers w/3in Collector (I heard this exhaust setup all together and it sounds really good to me)
* NGK TR55 Spark Plugs
* LS1 MSD 8.5mm Super Conductor Wire Set
* LS6 Intake
* K&N Cold Air Intake (Installed)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
That's all I have so far as far as performance parts go. I know that I will need a cam and I really only have two cam options so far, the Lingenfelter GT2-3 and the TSP 224R. I don't want a crazy big cam or something crazy loud, just a mild good cam for daily driving. But my main goal for the car is just to have the car get close to or over 400HP and have the car just running good and smooth and driving good and smooth for daily driving until I get a truck and can put it in the garage. Oh and please let me know if I would have to upgrade my heads or not, I'm hoping I can keep the factory heads because this is a budget build and I'm sure I can but anyway please can you guys help me out, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks you guys.

Also add a converter to the list. Something like a yank 3600-4000.
Yank ss3600 long tubes and drag radials I went 12.3@110mph

I haven't chosen those yet. The rims will be 19x9 in the front & 20x10.5 in the rear though.

The 228R is more than what I'm looking for.

That cam has proven itself for years on here. The 228 would be perfect. I wouldnt go any smaller. I run the TSP 233/239. That cam is easily daily driveable.

100 shot of giggle gas. Done. Cheapest way for you to get to 400+ and should be safe if tuned right.

Sound like a cool fun build. My car made 382WHP (old set-up) with exactly the same parts on your list, the only diff is that I had a flowmaster muffler with 2.5" pipes instead of the load-mouth/ borla you have, also I had a 3" cut-out and ORY, That's with @%&* gas (91 octane)

The car also had a 224R cam/ stock heads and 1 3/4's. I did not install a converter with the 224R because it is the biggest cam you can go with stock T/C, unless you want lower ET's but for the street your better of with the stock TC.

I wouldn't get to caught up in a number. What makes 400 rwhp+ on one dyno may make 375 rwhp on another dyno.

I agree - MPH is a better index of power increase since it doesn't require a great launch.

The exhaust will have more to do with noise level than the cam. You do not need heads to reach 400. You'll also want a tune, even if it's just mail order (which I ran for years with the TSP Torquer 3 cam).

If money is a concern, definitely browse the classifieds here. I've saved a ton of money going that route with some of my stuff recently. So many guys buy brand new parts and change their mind or something, so you can benefit from that.

Surprised nobody else said it, but if you want baby cam daily driveability with a 400-RWHP powerplant, you'll want to upgrade your heads. A set of mildly ported and milled 243 heads will do wonders. No need to go insane on the heads, as your goals don't warrant it, and your intake would bottleneck high end heads anyway.

It's much cheaper to go with a larger cam, but you pay in driveability.

I would just add LS6/243 heads stock and an LS6 cam with a great tuner to your already solid list that should be right at 400rwhp basically an LS6/Z06 combo

Only 2 things I dont like on your parts list is the ASD underdrive pulley and msd plug wires are a waste of money.Both of those parts caused me nightmares. The pulley failed on me within a week of install and it seperated and just free spun the outer shell.The msd wires gave me misfire codes and I went back to stock.

Cam choice between the 224r vs the 228r can sound the same..its literally down to the tune and what exhaust setup you run will dictate the sound. A 228r @ 114lsa wont be as hardcore choppy sounds at idle and make a few more hp than the 224r.Contact tsp and pick their brains between the 2..cant go wrong either way. And as mentioned above..some head work would be a substantial gain in the ability to make power where you will most likely spend most of the time driving the car. 243 heads milled, basic port job and a new springs and trunion upgrade while your at it will wake things up under the curve for a daily driver.
