Talking Just Installed FM11!!

I just got done installing a Futural Mototsports F11. The actual specs on the card are 228.1/230 .5765/.5965 112+4 lsa.

Holy friggin awesome car Batman!!

First off a BIG BIG THANK YOU to everybody who helped me out this weekend!!!!! You guys are the BEST! I was thrilled to see most everyone was there at some point to help me. Erick(poik) was there to help with the tear down. Mark(wahusker) came and added his expertise for both days and was a HUGE help, thank you sir! Eric(ram it) came and was also a big help on some of the tough parts. Rick(rokko) was there for most of the time and pulled my butt out of trouble more than once. Doug(99lss1) was also a big help, especially getting to all those hard to reach places. And Jason(tranzorz28) came and added some good help and advice towards the end! Again thank you all very much!! It wouldn't have happened without you guys!!

Alright the whole run down.
On friday night we started to tear the car down and got all the way to taking the pulley off. Which was a bit of a struggle because we didn't have the longer crankshaft pulley bolt. Bobby(93tawicked1) sent his to us and it was supposed to arrive on friday, but the post office didn't deliver any mail on friday due the President Regan's funeral. We ended there on friday night.

Saturday morning we started about 9:00am and on to long after we were starting on the actual cam swap. We used steel rods from home depot and they held the lifters up great! No pen magnets needed. Then we spent about 2-3 hours changing the stock oil pump and timing chain to a LS6 oil pump, and a Rollermaster double roller. Then onto the springs. We used the Larry tool for the valve springs and it worked very well. We also had an air tool so we got all the springs changed in about 2 hours! We used the TDC method to keep the valves from falling. Then we put it all back together and double checked everything. Everything seemed to be ok so we fired it up! It started and found idle after a while but was running extremely rough, and the whole car was shaking really hard and lots of smoke was comming out the back. Since at that time it was 8:00 we shut her off and called it a night.

This morning my dad and I went back and pulled the valve covers off and found that the rocker arm on the exhaust valve of cylinder #7 was loose. So we tightened that one up and checked everything again, put it all back together and...She fired right up!! She found idle very quickly and lopes hard, and sounds very healthy!! The car rumbles so loud that it sounds like a high HP 60's car who wants to eat you for lunch!

I took it out for a test run and I am AMAZED to say the least! The car has awesome street manners, so much that it drives just like stock (I am running on the default predator tune only so far) I have only taken her up to 4k so far and I can tell a BIG difference already. Can't wait till tomorrow to open her up!

Special thanks to JMX for the write up on LS1howto.com great instructions man! Bobby for sending us his longer bolt, even though we didn't use it.LOL Mark, and Jason for lending their tools. And My uncle Dave for letting us crash his garage for the weekend, use his tools, and helping!!

I have a predator and as soon as I get a custom tune from James (RWTD) I am sure it will be even better!

You're welcome for the help I could provide arriving so late... but I was glad I could be there for you to fire it up for the first time! Sounded wicked even with the loose rocker...

And who needs the longer pulley bolt to seat the pulley anyhow? That's what a splitting maul and a 2x4 is for.

Congradulations on the cam When we did mine, had a problem getting the pulley off and we used the waterpump bolts to do it...worked like a charm.

When you guys put your fm11 in, what kind of tuning did you do? I have a predator and am waiting for a custom tune from James.

The car is drivable, but is starting to get a little tempermental at idle. Did tuning take care of this?

Thanks

Sounds just like what my car does. However, I have learned that at start up if I keep about 5% throttle so the car is at roughly 1100 rpms it learns where idle is and never dies. If I don't it seems like it wants to die. I also hope tuning takes care of that.
