How far to disassemble with a rod knock
Well, I just got my cammed 5.3 swapped porsche tuned and road worthy. 15 miles later it has a rod knock with throttle and shiney oil. Craigslist engine ftw... so now I'm going to pull it back out and see how bad it is. If it isn't too bad I'd like to just change out rod/main bearings, turn crank and move on. My question is, is there anything else I should do or check? Would the metallic oil impact the oil pump? Should I clean out the oil galleys? I would really like to pull the crank with the heads still on since I just had all of that apart. Though heads off would give me an opportunity to replace rings.. I'm a budget minded broke college kid though, my goal is to fix it well enough that this doesn't happen again!

I figured I would just do a quick oil change afterwards to remove the bearing material. Maybe change the filter out once more soon after that to be on the safe side.
