Default TSP 228R cam+Springs

I plan on purchasing a cam sometime within the week, i want something no smaller than a TR224 but nothing bigger than the TSP 228R. What cam would you recommend that is around or between those type of cam specs for a possible daily driver car. Also what kind of springs would be good for such an application, i want to order from Texas Speed & Performance if possible because i hear they have awsome customer service and they appear to have the best deals. Should i go with something like the patriot performance package or would something like the Comp Cam or Manley package be sufficient?

The more i look at the TSP package with the patriot valve springs, patriot retainers, seals, spring seats, and TSP 7.40" Chromemoly pushrods the more attractive it becomes. Does this package come with the Patriot Gold Springs that i've heard so much about, if so i think this is the one i'm gonna get. Any comments/suggestions appreciated.

Oh and by the way am i going to need a new timing set, car has 77k? Would a Rollermaster Doubler Roller Adjustable timing set be enough or would i need the heat-treated version.

The 228R is a great all around street cam. You dont need a high dollar timing chain set, just buy a stock replacement chain for 30bucks.

Default The Tsp 228r

I HAVE THE TSP 228R ON A 112 IN A M6 AND I LOVE IT!I HAVE STOCK HEADS AND THIS IS A DAILY DRIVER.IT HAS A NICE IDLE WITH ENOUGH CHUNK TO IT.THE REST OF MY VALVETRAIN CONSISTS OF MANLEY SPRINGS , SEATS , LOCKS,TITANIUM RETAINERS , & PUSHRODS.I USED THE HEAT TREATED DOUBLE W/TORRIGTON AND IT ALL WORKS GREAT.I WILL ADMIT THE TIMING CHAIN IS OVERKILL ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU SEE IT (nice piece though)I JUST HAPPEN TO GET A SWEET DEAL ON EVERYTHING.I USED THE VINCI SPRING TOOL AND THAT MADE FOR A QUICK AND EASY INSTALL.THIS CAM IS ON THE BIG END OF YOUR 224 - 228 RANGE BUT THE LOW ADV. DURATION GIVES YOU A GOOD IDLE YOU JUST NEED THE VALVETRAIN TO HANDLE THE AGGRESSIVE LOBES.

What kind of gas mileage you getting with that cam. I know i'm gonna be different since i've got the A4 with 323's but an idea would be good. Thanks for the info, cam is definitly gonna be ordered tomarrow along with the Patriot Performance kit from TSP. Now all i need is a tune, some long tubes, and a stall

Let me know how the cam install comes out. Going to install the same cam your thinking about before i start building my stroker motor. My car has 92K on it and i was just gonna go with a dual timing chain + accesories. Motor still runs good and no smoke. So, let me know how you like the 228 with your A4. Thanks

Yeah mine still runs real real well for 77k, no smoke and still bustin *** on a basically stock car. Given there's not a lot of competition around here other than a few S/C mustangs and a few ls1's. I hope to get it all installed as soon as possible but it just depends on who i can get to help me and how long it'll take it send the computer off to get tuned.

Yeah i looked at it but that's about it, not big enough for my taste. Just got off the phone with TSP and ordered the TSP228R+Patriot performance cam package+LS6 ported oil pump+Rollermaster Doubler Roller timing chain. I talked to Matt and he said the complete order should be at my house no later than 2 1/2 to 3 weeks . And as soon as i get it installed i'm ordering a TCI 3500rpm stall and getting my computer tuned by TSP. I figure it's their cam mind so they'll know whats best as far as tuning it goes. I just dunno if i can wait the 3 weeks but damn once its all on it's gonna be pretty fast !!!!!

$250+ a $25 overnight shipping fee. I figure i'll send it to them since it's their cam so they outta know more about tuning it than anyone else, and if their customer service is as good as people say i've got plenty more i need to order so i'll probably pick them. I'll keep everyone posted as to how things go but as of right now i think i got a good deal and am happy wiht my purchase.

Yea, Let us know....I definitely would prefer to spend $250 for mail-tune than $450 for a full-dyno tune....The difference between the two approaches shouldn't be more than 5 rwhp.
