Default Cam Advice

I've been looking at upgrading my cam. I would like to go as aggressive as possible with my stall, which is a 3000, but pulling through the stall isn't my biggest concern. I understand I would need new valve springs, is there anything else that I should get to accompany the cam? What would you guys recommend?

There are plenty of things you will need for a cam swap. What are your end goals with this cam? Are you wanting a max effort or just one with a decent power increase for daily driving?

If you're going aggressive, then you'll need quality dual valve springs for best durability and chromoly pushrods. You'll want a cam installation kit as well. If the engine has more than 100K miles on it I would recommend changing the oil pump and lifters as well.

We have a great deal on a cam kit here: BTR Cam Kit

You'll want to pick up a cam installation kit too: Cam Installation kit

I'd like to get the most out of my car as possible, mainly on at the drag strip.

What could I expect for HP gains from that kit you linked? Also does that kit include everything I would need?

Well if you are wanting to get the most out of the car then you are going to want a better stall. A lot of the max effort cams aren't very good down low but love a high stall. It wouldn't surprise me if a 4400 stall would suit you well.

Yeah I know, the stall may as well not be there as of right now. Do you know how 4400 stalls do on the street? I still would be able to drive it regularly without it being annoying.

I think you'd have transmission temperature issues and when you start getting that crazy with your stall it starts getting annoying to drive on the street.

Tranny cooler is a necessity for any stalled auto car...

Do you think I would see a lot of improvement if I upgraded to a 3600 or 3800 stall?

231/242 .617"/.592" 112+2
These are the specs on the cam I'm looking at. I've read the cam guide and I still have no idea what this means. How aggressive is this cam?

Depending on your intake manifold, at least a 6500 rpm cam? It should have a healthy choppy/lope idle too. I come more so from a SBC world.

As far as the converter goes, I'm putting together a carbed 6.0 (pretty similar cam and victor jr intake) for a 3,000lb s10 that will be very light duty street/strip and I'm going to be running at least a 4,000 stall but I'm not crazy worried about drive ability or heat because the furthest I'll drive it is about 8 miles away.

If you're asking questions like this, just email any of the sponsors (Ed Curtis, Martin Smallwood, Kip Fabre, Brian Tooley, Geoff Skinner) they'll answer any and all questions you have and then some.

If you're not used to a cam... go with something like this from BTR:

http://www.briantooleyracing.com/ls1...ge-ii-cam.html

Stage II Cam 227/234 .614"/.576" 113+2

It would drive nice and make good power. You can use a 3400-3600 stall with it. It'd be perfectly streetable, perform well, and not be a radical depature from how the car drives now. It'll just be faster.

That's a good call. Most mid to high 220's cam shelf grinds are very good blends between performance and drive ability.
