243. Idk who they were installed by. I've put about 15000 miles on the car since I bought it and this is the first time the engine has had any issues

Yeah those heads never came on that car originally, but they are better heads than the factory 241 heads for 01-02 fbody cars..

So back to the problem at hand.. Lol

It's really tough to diagnose a engine tick over the Internet, maybe take a video?

I forgot I'm still cleaning the valve covers. I'll post a vid tomorrow after I change the oil

This is the time when your going to learn to start working on cars..

I think most of us here started because they ran into an issue and didn't have the cash to take it to a shop..

I started really working on cars when a known shop in my area gave me a 2k estimate to do a cam swap back in 2004

Lol I like to think I know a bit. I changed out the clutch master cylinder myself and I've modded multiple cars in the past.
My experience is in suspension and brakes, not engines tho hahaha. Time to learn I guess

Doesn't sound like a valve train issue to me, Usually they will run with a broken rocker arm or bent pushrod. Horrible tapping sound makes me think it's much more serious than that. I would run a compression test to see if you can narrow it down to a certain cylinder and then go from there. If it's more of a knocking sound rather than a ticking sound I would guess something let go in the bottom end.

Let me guess, You had it in second gear and ran it hard to 5,000rpms and then just let off the gas and let the engine slow the car rather than pushing in the clutch and coasting?

I understand how it could break an engine but I'm a bit baffled that you have seen in multiple times. It doesn't seem like a common occurrence

According to a quick Google search, engine braking does not harm the engine unless you over rev it when downshifting (which I didn't do)

It's not common but I have been around racing for most of my life.
I couldn't even tell you why it happens but I have seen many engines blow as soon as the throttle is lifted. I don't know if it has anything to do with the sudden vacuum surge when the throttle blades close causes it or possibly there is enough slack in the timing chain that when you lift hard that it the slack allows a valve to kiss a piston.

Ok so I unplugged the ignition coils and cranked the engine with the starter and there was no noise. Plugged em in and started the car and I found the source of the knocks to be the trans. Flywheel falling off the engine or pressure plate issues

I had a friend start the car for a brief second and listened carefully to find where the noise was coming from. I totally could be 100% wrong so it's just a theory right now until I remove the starter and see if I can look at the flywheel. Still kicking around other ideas. Changed the oil and the oil has no metal bits and the filter is clear too

So my smart friend suggested I take off the starter motor to have a look at the flywheel before I drop the Trans, pulled the starter off and found that it wasn't fully disengaging from the flywheel
