Default Intake valve destruction

Hey guys. So I posted a thread about 2 weeks ago about how my engine would start but not run. I tried my hardest to find something small causing it but I finally pulled the driver side cylinder head and holy crap. The intake valve got wedged into the cylinder head.

So now I have to rebuild the engine and I have a few routes I can go. Any insight or recommendations would be extremely helpful

Heads: so I have 243 heads and I could either repair/port and polish my current heads or buy new used ones off eBay. To me, the damage seems too extensive to repair.

Bottom end: since the piston is fucked up I'm planning on dropping the engine and either sending to a place to have the bottom end rebuild or doing it myself.

Any thoughts on what I should do/ what parts I should get? I would like to keep it as inexpensive as possible while doing everything properly.

Did you have stock parts in the valve train?

How much is a next longblock? Sometimes the cost to simply replace the whole engine is less than or equal to the cost for fixing this sort of catastrophic failure. It depends on how easily the work to the bottom end is going to be done (do you own a machine shop or...), and cost of new/other heads, and all the assembly, cleanliness, machine work, and attention to detail. Miss one important aspect of any of that you are back to catastrophe.

The valve train is stock except for comp cams pushrods. And ya I was thinking about a new engine but I would like to keep the car matching numbers if I can. I could throw in a junkyard ls1 while I have the original built up but that seems like too much. From the brief Google search I did, dropping the engine myself and sending it to a shop to have the bottom end rebuilt seems like a good option. Assuming my cam and lifters are still good, I would then have to put the new heads on and install the rockers, pushrods and new springs

"Matching numbers" are for Baby Boomers and cars from the 60s.

Ya ya ya I still want to keep the original block. Do you think the cylinder head is repairable?

Probably not very cost effective to repair it, unless it was ported. It would need to be welded up and probably needs a new valve guide or two, as well as new valves obviously. It's probably smarter just to get another head.

I think that's a good plan, but be sure to check the classifieds here too. You can usually find someone willing to seek one head.

I would check the classifieds here and the local Craigslist before eBay. At least with Craigslist, you can inspect before you buy.

That's a good point. I'll definitely look around here and craigslist before I go to eBay.

So the piston is fucked up too so I'm going to have to rebuild the bottom end. I'm thinking keep stock crank but new rods and Pistons. (And bearings of course).

Any suggestions on good stock style Pistons? Not looking for forged cnc milling titanium craziness. But something stronger that stock would be nice
