Installing rockers
I'm just replacing my stock rockers with another set of stock rockers that has the trunion upgrade done to them already...
no fancy shmancy billet jewels or anything of that sort.
You can just unbolt them one at a time and reinstall the new one. That's probably not the best because there is a possibility that you can strip the threads on a rocker bolt when a valve is wide open and there is a lot of tension on the bolt.
Another way is to use EO/IC method. When the exhaust valve starts to open, the intake valve is closed. The lifter is on the base circle of the cam at that point and you can do the intake rocker. Turn the engine by hand and watch for the intake valve to open. At that point you can do the exhaust valve.
A third method is to watch for the intake valve to close and then turn the engine about a third of a revolution more. Both valves will be closed and you can do both intake and exhaust on that cylinder. LS1 firing order is 1, 8, 7, 2, 6, 5, 4, 3. If you start at #1, turn the engine 90 degrees and do #8. Then turn the engine another 90 degrees and do # 7. Keep up in firing order until you've done all eight cylinders.
You don't have to be exact with this because all you're doing is swapping out rocker arms. If a valve is part way open, there is little chance of damaging anything.
