Should i trust 243 heads from ebay?

Default Should i trust 243 heads from ebay?

hey guys, i currently have a comp 228/234 cam in my ls1. Now i need a good set of heads, i dont want to spend $2200 on a pair of Tfs 215 heads (which i know would be my best bet). So i was wondering, should i trust a pair of 243 heads off of a trail blazer? The poster says they are showing signs of use, age, and weathering. This is a red flag, but i was going to get them port an polished anyway, so does condition really matter? i also have new springs, rods, and lifters. HELP!!!

Have your current heads ported with a valve job. They will work better than an as cast set of 243's.

You should have no concerns with using any 243 castings. Worst case they might need new guides, but generally they all seem to be in really good shape when we get them ever with 200k+ miles. Send you a PM on pricing and porting options

When I talked with Phil at Advanced Inductions about this, here is his response:

Most times the used cores are fine. It is rare we see cores that have been butchered up or need bolt hole thread repair.

I biught my set from Ebay "as cores", and when I got them, I cleaned them up and lapped in the valves, and they sealed right up. I was just looking to see how they would do at that point, but in the end, I had them milled, and a valve job done once I ported on them.

Quite a few 243s for sale around. Just gotta search. Try facebook pages, especially local LSx pages.
Also I have a set off a 07 vette I may part with. Had 21k miles on it. If the price is right.

Just bought mine off eBay fairly cheap because they needed a broken bolt taken out. So have a few others I know nothing bad so far. But you'll find a better set as soon as u buy one it seems like

Unless the 243's came off a Z06 and have the good lightweight sodium valves in them, they aren't worth the extra money IMO. No, not all 243's and 799's have the good valves and springs.
