Default Rocker bolt threads

My camaro was having smoke at start up and idling until in put red permatex on my ported heads rocker bolts. This was done about 8k miles ago. Recently my car has been having the same symptoms. Does the permatex eventually need to be redone to the bolts? Is it possible i didnt put enough in? Doesnt smoke at wot and valve seals were changed 10k miles ago

I recommend putting a small amount of silicone or some kind of thread sealer on the threads of the bolts that are protruding into the ports. Make sure it is a sealant not just a basic thread locker.

Should i have to do that again? Is it common? I have done it about 8k miles ago. I used permatex red high temp.
I know im putting new heads on shortly but the smoke is kind of embarrassing lol

No I wouldn't expect you to have to redo it unless possibly you didn't use enough the first time. When you pull the valve covers off also inspect to make sure the valve guide seals are still seated correctly.

Yes if it were a ring issue I would expect the symptoms to be a bit different. If you are concerned with the condition of the engine you could find a local shop to do a leak down and compression test to put your mind at ease.

I have good luck using permatex ultra blue everywhere that isn't exhaust temps. The high temp stuff you used may not have dried properly and has been eaten away by the gas.

I used the Loctite 242 (blue) on mine, no issues. There is also a PTFE sealer for threads. Did you clean the bolts and the female threads good? That could also be the issue.

Permatex ultra blue seals and dries even on oily surfaces and is what I used in my CNC'd 5.3 heads for over 70,000 miles, no burning oil.

But read this..

Hmmm, wonder if I could use that on a rusted oil pan (Jeep).
