help identifying noise coming from engine
it's louder than the typical injector chatter.
thoughts?
didn't really plan to open the valve covers until I did a turbo build in a year or two.
I'll take the serpentine belt off tomorrow and see if that makes a difference. doubt it will, doesn't really sound like it's coming from the front but it's hard to really pinpoint an area at all.
I did search ls1tech for "chirping" and as you said, some of the threads were lifters. we shall see.
I also have some exhaust leaks I need to deal with so I suppose that could be a source as well.

Here's another video with a slight engine rev. It appears the noise increases tempo with rise in RPM's.

I'm personally leaning towards what Russ K referred to. My 00 z28 piston slapped like a ............ Ate a ton of oil and just kept going. Sold it to a good buddy of mine. He's still driving it. Just drove it from Illinois to DC, still his daily even lol.
Not saying it's for sure piston slap, not saying yours will last for years like mine has. But on cold start it was horrendous. Pretty much completely went away after it was driven for a couple minutes and brought to temp. I ran VR1 20w-50 in that car, and it drank it haha.
The car had a big nitrous cam, longtubes true duals no cats turned down under the seat. Yea, it was damn loud. You could still hear it slap real hard in the morning. I hit 6800prms in that car at least every time I drove it lol. It still runs, but I honestly don't know how lol.

If it isn't that, then I would drain the oil and cut the filter to see what it looks like.
I listened to some videos on YouTube of loose torque converter and to me this doesn't sound like those. it does kind of sound like the piston slap videos I listened to earlier today after it was suggested as a possibility.
Was it making the noise before the oil change? If not, then you can drain it now and check. If it was, then I'd start with pulling the valve covers like others mentioned.
About 6 per second. Times 60=360 per minute. 360 times 2=720rpm. Just a thought.
