Question Help, brain tooley or pac

Hi Team,

I am doing my first garage build, I picked up a LS6 intake manifold and 243 heads. The heads are assembled with yellow springs/rockerarms/and valves etc.

I am trying to decide between 2 valve spring kits?:

.660" LIFT PLATINUM SPRING KIT SK001

PAC-KS14 .600

I Want a kit that will be an easy drop in as both are, will I have to do any shimming/customization ? with these springs. I will be machining the head and cleaning it up most likely with a port an polish to get it back to brand new.

I do not have a cam as yet, but when I do I will prob go with a COMP CAM lift ranging from .570 - .580.

If you guys can share your expertise it will be greatly appreciated.

I would ask the cam grinder what open and closed spring pressures they'd recommend and get the spring kit (and shim if necessary) that meets that.

Get the cam first, then the springs.

Guys, before I start since I have the heads off I really want to build it, and the valve spring kit is in my budget atm.

I am not trying to have the car down all winter and all summer.

NOW THE MAIN QUESTION:

Will I be able to run the heads with the valve spring kit on stock cam?

The cam will be done in the next year or the following as it is not in my budget atm.

I know the valve springs has to match the cam but I have chose those 2 valve kits above in the OP because I based it on one or two cam specs ranging anywhere from .560 to .580 lift.

So you want to get the springs now, put them in with a stock camshaft, then when you get a cam in one to two years, put it in with one to two year old springs? That's your plan?

Stick with the stock springs now. Stock cam won't push them.

They are much easier to install with the heads off the engine. So that's about the only reason I'd do it. But if you have the budget now to buy them, just get the BTR Platinums and put them on the shelf. As long as you use stock rockers and use either BTR or Cam Motion lobes, you'll be fine.

You don't need those expensive springs for your intended camshaft. Here's a tip: Decide NOW what cam you will buy next year and buy the springs the cam grinder recommends.
WAY too many people over spring and all it does is waste money and waste horsepower. It takes extra horsepower to turn that motor over with heavier valvesprings.
