Default Max compression

I'm a bit new and have a couplevel questions. If I run a lm7 stock 3.622" stroke with 6.125 rods, forged flat tops, 799 heads, and smallest head gasket I can run. How much would i need to mill the heads and what would I be in compression? This is a weekend warrior for the strip.NA.

Why not check with piston manufacturer on compression ratio? They will tell you what the compression is with different CC heads.

Wow it said right on the page... question. This will only give me a 10.1 or less compression. Do I have to run the r1 pistons with aftermarket rods?

You can get a calculator online where you enter all of the data and it gives you CR.

Diamond's catalog tells you exactly what the CR of their pistons is with different heads.

That page has pistons listed for factory and aftermarket rods.

You can put 4.8 pistons in your 5.3 and get the same thing, they are flat tops and drop right onto your rods.

So I guess I won't be getting the compression I wanted. I found everything you mentioned. Thank you. Are 4.8 capable of taking lots of spray

It depends on what you mean by 'lots of spray'.
There are a few stock 4.8s and 5.3s taking a 300 shot.

My question, if you're paying for aftermarket pistons, why not get ones that give you the compression ratio you want? Its not like there is any additional cost..

Bore it out to LS1 specs. You gain a lot more piston options then.
You could also use flat tops in the 5.3 and run .040" gaskets and have the chambers in the heads filled to get you close to 12:1.

How much of a power gain will I get overall boring it bigger? So far it does seem cheaper to run the 4.8 flat tops with stock 5.3 rods. Heads milled .030?

Its a ~7% increase in displacement, but you get a LOT more options for pistons.

I like the extra options but my block is already honed, decked, and hot tanked. I was only going to upgrade rod and pistons because I was told they are weak but if I can run 300 shots of spray I could just swap to the 4.8 flat tops and do what u said with the heads. Maybe a 228r 114lsa cam and go from there?

Get Gen 4 5.3 flat top pistons/rods. You won't break them unless you screw something up. They're as strong as any entry-level forged rod.

Even the gen 3 stuff is insanely strong compared to what most people are used to.

That's a pretty bad camshaft for 12:1 compression.

So milling the heads back from 66cc to 60cc with a 0.040 gasket still only making 10.6 compression on the calculator.

You can have someone like AI CNC you some heads and they will fill the chambers. The lowest I've seen is 54cc on stock truck castings. Any lower than that and I imagine you start shrouding the valves and losing too much flow.

AI can also weld up the chambers to increase compression.

Or run the Wiseco Junkyard Dog pistons for the stock rods and 5.3L... they make one that's +6cc dome that would get compression up with 799/243 heads.

https://www.texas-speed.com/p-4180-w...rist-pins.aspx

I'd also look at the TFS 205 Heads with 58cc Chambers. They are designed for the 5.3L bore and outflow a lot of stuff...

https://www.summitracing.com/parts/t...-c00/overview/

And why 12:1? It won't really make you any faster. 11.5:1 is plenty and easier to attain.
