Is it worth buying these heads?
This year, I plan on accumulating parts to do a heads/cam/intake swap on my 1999 Z28. I don't have money for $2000+ heads, and I never had a car that was "built," so I'm trying to save a bit of money where a can to do a mild build to ease myself into a higher horsepower build. So, that being said, I plan on upgrading to 243 heads.
These popped up on Craigslist for $150, and saying the need to porting and valve work, and that he has valves and springs for it. I haven't seen them in person yet, but they seem a bit rough. Would it be worth it to get them and had them machined?

Those heads are rough. Looks like fire heads because I think that I see the melted intake where the intake valves are pulled from.
I had a similar set that I sold for dirt cheap because they needed a lot of work that came from a fire motor. The seats were also dislodged. Would need milled, valves ground, new springs, probably new seats, and maybe guides. I only had a set like that because they came with the motor.
Walk away, there are better deals out there, that's my opinion. You can find nice low mile ones that would probably only need springs on the board for $300-$400. By the time you ge all that stuff fixed on those heads, you could have multiple sets.

I agree with everyone else. I would save up some money and try to pick up a set of ported 243's or even some used aftermarket castings. You will thanks your self later.

Thanks for the replies everyone! I'll probably just do Thompson or Texas Speed heads, then.
I believe they were out in Monee. The listing has been removed, so I can't say for sure. I think it's was by Bruns road or Dralle road or something like that
