Default So close, yet so far away...

I'm looking to achieve 500 rwhp from my LS1. And I'm soooo close. Thoughts on what I can do to get there...NO SPRAY. Want to stay NA.

Like I've been reading, 500 horse is the new 300 :>(

Stats:

If anyone remembers lawmanSS's car, this is now mine but with some improvements over his awesome work.

SDPC 346 short block

MTI STAGE IIR LS6 HEADS (milled .030, Manley double springs, titanium retainers, hand ported/polished, 3-angle valve job)

F.A.S.T. LSX 90MM INTAKE MANIFOLD, PORTED/PORT-MATCHED BY RAPID MOTORSPORTS

NICK WILLIAMS C.N.C. BILLET 90MM THROTTLE BODY

KOOKS LONG TUBE HEADERS, 1 3/4” PRIMARIES, STAINLESS STEEL, CERAMIC COATED BY JET HOT

KOOKS 3" OFF-ROAD Y-PIPE

RACETRONIX/DELPHI 36LB FUEL INJECTORS

CRANE CAMS HYDRAULIC ROLLER LIFTERS

TRICK FLOW HARDENED CHROME MOLY 7.200 PUSHRODS

CRANE CAMS GOLD RACE ROLLER ROCKER ARMS, 1.8 RATIO

TEXAS SPEED 228r CAM

I bought this car late last summer. The PO had it dyno tuned for our elevation and it produced 466RWHP and 440RWT.

I plan to take the car this spring to Stromberger Performance in Spokane Washington to have "street" tuned. Other than that I don't know what else I could do to make it to that 500 horse mark. And I should say that I am happy with it the way it is. I like the smaller, more drivable, cam.

Thoughts?

Appreciate your time and thoughts...

Is that 346" or 446"?
34 RWHP is a lot for a 346" already at 466 RWHP.
MY .02
Ported FAST 102 (keep 90 MM TB & get V-Max Ring/Spacer) +15-20.
**True Duals 15-20.**
**Cam with +4-6* negative split to carry farther 228*/232-234* ***

Bigger $$$
MMS 220s +~25-30, MMS 223s +~15-20.
Comp should be 11.5:1.
Can you post current graph?

maybe try true duals instead of the y-pipe?
tune would most likely extract as much hp as possible
what kind of intake/lid?
possibly truck sparkplug packs instead of the oem/ls1?

edit-race gas when you go tune for optimal spark timing

I agree, it is a lot for a 346. And I shouldn't mess with it because it runs really well the way it is. I do need a street tune to compliment the dyno tune it had.

I'm computer stupid. I can text the last dyno tune to you if you are up for posting it for me??

I have thought about true duals. It has a Pypes muffler now and I would just hate to mess with the way the car sounds. But yes, that is an option I will entertain.

It has a clear lid from SLP.

Here is the sale add when Chris(lawmanSS) had the car. The guy he sold it to in Florida had EFI Alchemy put the short block from Scoggin-Dickey in and the 228r cam.

My computer skills are remedial as well, My wife posts graphs/images in my
posts for me, LOL.
True duals and Ported 102 should get you real close with no loss of drivability,
single pattern cam and current exhaust are holding you back at least 25-30
RWHP IMO.

Gonna take alot more, and even then it will be pretty hard on a "real" dyno. The power it has now is already on the higher side of believable for a 346 with a small cam, OEM casting heads and a fast 90.

It's going to take a pretty decent sized cam in the high 230s and some proper aftermarket 225 heads to even sniff that kind of power.

Appreciate your input. Guess I will leave well enough alone.

Tuner said the car pulled off the rollers at the end of the run.

In my opinion it will come down to how high you want to spin that 346. If you want the most power with least amount of work I would get in touch with brian tooley and see what he thinks needs to be done. 228r is a nice cam with good manners, but in this case I don't think you are going to get to have your cake and eat it too. 500whp NA with tame street manners isnt an easy thing to get out of a 346. But it can be done with the right recipe, depending on what you call 'drive-able'.

Maybe add a methanol kit to it, so you can throw some more timing at it?????

Hmm, good way of putting it. I like cake tho :>)

In all honesty I'm happy with the car the way it runs and drives now. It has a traction problem as it is so throwing more money at the engine doesn't make a whole lot of sense I guess. Appreciate all the replies.

Yeah it sounds like other mods should come next, since power isn't an issue. Address weak points in the car and you'll like it even more. Sorta like going to the gym, ya don't just do bicep curls.
