Default Lifter issues?

Hi all! As I am trying to check my ptv clearance I notice that one of my new morel lifters is able to compress ever so slightly by using light thumb pressure and none of the other 15 or any of the stock ls1 lifters compress at all by hand. Is this cause for concern?

Anyone think I got a bunk lifter? One out of 32 in my possession feel different.... I wouldn't think this is normal. I know hydraulic lifters are supposed to pre load but this is the only lifter that feels "springy" by hand pressure

Take it out and put it in some engine oil then push the plunger a few times. It should stiffen right up.

this is what I figured as well... I soaked them all in oil and thought maybe I didn't soak this one enough. I put it in oil and pushed the plunger but still nothing. Maybe I'm just being paranoid but I don't like how it's the only one out of 16 that is a little springy. Can't see it being faulty or giving me issues but don't wanna learn the hard way

Something is wrong, it should stiffen up. Contact the supplier, I'll bet there is a small piece of dirt interfering with the internal working. Smart to notice this now. Might be fine under engine oil pressure conditions but why tempt it.

yeah for sure. I will let it soak in oil over night but I can't see even just a little bit of compression being ok when it's the only one doing this. The problem is I ordered from TSP and I am from Canada so it's a bit of a process just for one lifter. I don't think anyone carries morels near me. Pretty frustrating to have a delay cause of one lifter
thanks for the response

I just put in Johnson lifters and I can pre load all 16 with finger pressure. Is this abnormal?

No not at all, it just depends how full they are. When there is air in the plunger it will move easily. When it is completely full of oil it will move very hard. But when one lifter is different than the rest in the same situation it raises question as to why.

You could try flushing it with solvent then try reoiling it. Doesn't take much to screw with the lifters small internal parts. You could also carefully disassemble the lifter then clean it good and retry. Its very easy to do.

Yes this is just it. I talked to a family member who has built engines for the past thirty plus years and he doesn't seem to think it's a big deal at all. I am still interested to see if soaking overnight fixes the issue

I can tell you this, I put 100's of lifters in and I always put them in oil them compress them with a push rod while in the oil until they will not move. I never had a one that didn't pump up and stay there. Like I said it may just be a tiny bit of dirt holding the check ball open etc but noway would it go in my engine until it worked like the other 15 lifters.

Good point. I would take it apart but don't want to mess it up.

well I got home today and pressed on the plunger and it's solid like the other 15 lifters. That puts my mind at ease s bit more
