Default Cylinder wall issue **PICS***

I had an oil consumption problem out of one cylinder so I tore my motor down only to find, well nothing other than this spot in that cylinder. I had the heads checked and all the rings looked fine however I am replacing them.

this spot is on the front side of cylinder #2 the piston had to be all the way down to see it, smooth to the touch. I'm sure oil getting in there it was not firing correctly but weird that a hot spot would be so far down??

This is a LQ4 block that has been bored .030 over.

Any and all opinions welcomed.

The block was checked before the machine work was done but could have been missed etc, kind of what I am thinking. Could that be an oil control issue ?

How loose was the piston in that bore? That mark is trying to tell you something, I'd investigate closely. Who knows what it looks like up to operating temps. If you put a ring in that cylinder and square it up does it rest against the wall properly?

Block is at machine shop, builder took some steel wool and oil and rubbed a few seconds and the spot is gone. going to sonic test but we are fairly sure the ring didn't seat in that cylinder. Still unsure what caused the spot.
