Anyone run the Hawks Performance Sinister cam?

Thumbs up Anyone run the Hawks Performance Sinister cam?

I have a LS1, stock bottom end, 243 heads, FAST LSXR 102 intake, M6 trans and 4.10 gears. Its in my 1970 Nova.
Anyone run this cam? The car is not a daily driver but I don't want it to be a bitch to drive around town. Any other cam suggestions?

EPS has a nice 226/234 driver cam that usually clears the pistons without fly cutting as long as the heads haven't been milled more than .020"
Most on here claim that BIG 102 intake is tricky to tune on a 346 so I'd suggest camming it conservative so as to NOT add to the difficulty

I am running a cam pretty identical to this as shown in my signature.. Mine just has higher lift.. Drives awesome (zero bucking or surging issues), makes great power, and has a very nice sounding choppy idle.. Check out my thread on it.. should have a lot of good info for you. I'm very impressed with the set up, i'd recommend running the .040 gaskets if your heads aren't milled too much.

Make sure you have a great tuner, because that is honestly the most important factor to ensure the car drives well..

While I don't have the Sinister cam, I have seen a couple of cars with it. I expect it to give a nice gain. It sounds good. I think it's a good cam. I think many of Hawk's Motorsports Cams are spec'd and selected with input from Ed Curtis. I suggested calling Hawk's and discussing your application.

Regarding drive ability, I've heard that the Fast LSXR 102 intake and matched TB can be tuned to drive like stock but I have never seen a Fast 102 intake actually deliver near stock drive ability. It might be possible with a gifted tuner. I don't think the Sinister is so radical it would make a 102 set up any harder to tune.

I have seen several dyno jet SAE results with the Sinister making mid-450 whp with supporting mod's like good exhaust and heads.

Hawk's Motorsports website says this:
Cam, Sinister 230/236 .591"/.601" 112 LSA Camshaft (recommended for LS1, LS6, LS2 engines only)

This camshaft features Comp Cams XER lobes! The XER lobes have been proven to make big horsepower & torque thanks to their aggressive ramp rates & healthy lift.

1800-6800 RPM Power Band; This is an excellent performance camshaft with an agressive idle! Custom tuning required

This camshaft typically gains approximately 45-60rwhp!

Specs are similar to the "Godfather" cam Ed Curtis spec'd for me years ago.
