Recommendation for 5.3 truck cam
BTR 205/212 .525/.534 114+2
TSP 208/214 .550/.550 113 LSA
Cam Motion 205/210 .510/.501 115+4
Vinci cam 200/208 .502/.502 115
I have a 2004 Chevy Avalanche Z71 and 4wd. It is mostly stock 5.3 with the exception of JBA shorty headers and a Magnaflow catback... I want to switch my stock cam for one of the ones mentioned.
My goals are to get more bottom end towing power and midrange horsepower increase. I also want to keep stock like drivabilty without killing my gas mileage. I want a low maintenance Cam that does not require a springs to be changed every 10,000 miles.
I will be getting a tune done once cam swap is complete. Let me know which cam you would pick or your opinion of a better cam.
In the future I may do a head swap but keeping the same goals in mind. Thanks in advance for the support!

Id go with whoever gives you the best deal and customer service. Lunati is pretty honest as well, would hurt to call around, ask Comp, Motion, Lunati, BTR. Ideally you would any a cam with a smooth power band and lots of torque. This means low intake durations, wide centerline and only as much lift as whatever heads you have flow.

You can go a bit bigger like the 212/218 mentioned and still have low end power. id go a tad larger honestly. We custom grind a 215/219 with close to .600 lift that is budget, quiet, easy on the valvetrain and makes alot of torque with no loss on bottom end. 515 for cam and springs!

For us Californianos (smog central), how would it idle, even if tuned to a "T"?

Right, and of course the trade-off is if you spread the LSA too much you lose low end torque and peak power.
Regardless, sounds like a good cam!
