You do know you have to use a iron block.. Aluminum won't bore to 99MM.

We have complete kits to turn your 5.3 into a 5.7. 3.905 bore. Comes with pistons with coated skirt, plasma moky std fit rings, cam/rod/crank bearings, thrust plate, hd timing set, hi flo oil pump, full gasket set with mls head gaskets and stock head bolts for $600 shipped. summit nor jegs can beat that price. We have either press fit or floating pin, same price.
I have personally built 10 iron 5.7s. They make quite a bit of power over the reg 5.3l. Great engine.

Which would you say is mostly doing the power increase, the .4L increase in displacement, or unshrouding the valves?

All of it adds up. Extra cr. Cubic inch. larger bore size unshrouding valves. To say any one thing contributes more allows rise to opinions like "well just use a flat top 5.3 piston and make the same power as the larger bore". If that were true gm wouldn't use the 6.0. They would put the flat top 5.3 in 2500 trucks and 1 tons. Obviously the ones that argue that either arent privy to real engine design theory, or like to turbo jy 4.8s and 5.3s stock and show their edick off to everyone.

The L33 Gen III aluminum block will punch out to 5.7L as well. But that's a waste of that block. It's magical for turbos.

You cannot just add a 4inch crank. Pistons are higher, rods are higher, and the crank too. plus clearance on block. and balance of assembly.

Shame on me, I didn't realize there were Al. blocks that would go out b that big, learn something every day! I just got my iron block LS1 back from the machine shop yesterday, can't wait to see how it works in a 94 SWB pickup..

No biggie man! The earlier blocks had thin walls and could not be bored much at all. The Gen 4 5.3 blocks I understand are based on the LS3 casting, which have thick enough cylinder walls to bore out a bit. Anyone please correct me if this is not right!
I did not know this myself until recently, so don't beat yourself up about it! lol
