Loud backfire when starting now engine locked up??
Well, I've never seen this happen, but last night I went to start my turbo 5.3 which was running fine and it backfired really loud through the intake and wouldn't turn over anymore. I hoped it was a starter/ flywheel issue but it wasn't. I could turn the crank with a breaker bar but only counterclockwise, when I turned it back clockwise it kept getting stuck in the same spot. Is it possible I bent a rod just from that single backfire?? I didn't check it out any further yet cuz I'm so 😡, ugh, il probly pull the plugs tonight, really didn't think a pop when starting would screw me this bad, figured it would happen when I was beating the nuts off it, any insight is appreciated thx guys

I would be surprised if so..do you have electric fuel pump..maybe you filled cylinder with fuel and locked it..
Have to pull plugs see what comes out then if nothing remove valve covers check push rods

Chances are, you're going to have to pull the engine and rebuild because it sounds like there's some serious internal damage, but you could narrow it down before you pull it. I would start with the plugs and see what they look like. Usually a ground strap will be closed up for damaged on the cylinder(s) that had something failed.
You could also pull the valvecovers and look for any dropped or stock valves, broken valvesepings, etc.

All is well? If that cylinder was full of fuel you at least have a bad injector. Stop and at least pull the injectors, spin the engine over and check compression.

Well, compression checked ok. Aired out the cylinders a couple days. Replaced #8 injector, started it and it's knocking, man wtf ??? I really can't believe this ****... I'm gonna pull the valve covers to take a peek, but I'm pretty sure it's a rod, fml.....

I have seen two motors break rods on start up because the injectors stuck. One we pulled the head and pan and put a new rod/piston in that hole..... the other one window'ed the block. I have taken to pulling the fuel rail off of these junk yard swaps with the injectors attached to make damn sure none are leaking.
