LQ9 street engine build

LQ9 street engine build
I have a 2004 LQ9 that I'm in the process of tearing down. It'll be going in my 69' Camaro mated to a 4L80e. My hp goal is around 450 with similar torque. I'm looking for max reliability and I'll be trying to stick to a modest budget ($5000 or so). That's not including the cost of the motor. I did pick up an LS6 take complete with injectors from a C5. My big consern is what cam would I need and should I pick up a new set of Pistons with valve reliefs to accommodate said cam? Again, I'd like to assemble a solid foundation that's simple and great for the street. Thanks

450 at the flywheel or rear wheels? Big difference....

We can set you up with a cam to fit that no problem. Honestly id freshen up the bottom end and go with a 4.030 bore. A 370 will make more power (and tq) on the same application and not cost too much in parts.
We have complete rebuild kits including pistons, rings, bearings, all hd gaskets, head bolts, hd oil pump, hd timing chain set, crank bolt, thrust plate for $650 for that lq9 and a cam kit to hit 450+ crank hp is $500 that includes cam and springs. The power range is 2600-6400 so perfect street cam and cruiser.
Ls7 lifters and trays are $140.
Thats basically a complete engine build for $1290 shipped. Cant get much better than that!

From someone who's built a LQ9, if I could do it over I'd just spend the money on building a stroker motor. You can always do the other mod's later if you're short on cash.

IF you want to keep the stock Stall speed, I would go with a 218/224 or 220/224 cam with .600/.600 lift on a 112 LSA and use some BTR .660 Platinum Springs. You can have the 035 heads ported which will work well the with LS6 intake. I would use a 90mm throttle body. Add some longtube headers and a tune, and you should hit your 450 crank Hp mark.
