I gotta headscratcher
Okay so i yanked a 99 5.3 ls with a 24 tooth crank found number 8 rod bearing was toast so bought a new crank ends up this is a 58 tooth crank, it will be a carburated setup with a howards asa cam and I'm planning on a double timing chain so heres my question. What all will i need to get to swap cranks without going to the machine shop?

Since you will be carbureted, what are you going to use to drive the ignition? That is where the different reluctors come into play.

Just change the reluctor wheel or call Lingenfelter and get their electric doo-hicky that changes the electrons to run the 24 to the 58.
I heated up the reluctor wheel on my crank with a torch and pulled it off and immediately installed it on a new crank. Easy to do.

From what I've read so far on my setup all i have to do is change the cam sensor and cam sprocket then install the crank with a 6ls2 box and it should run, I'm just not 100% on that since i am a fng to ls engines.

You can change the reluctor wheel but it takes a alignment tool from Goodson to get it timed correctly. about a 20 min job if you got the right tools. Tool is about 200 bucks...

IGN-8 Ignition Box
Hi Thef, you ALSO have a choice of fitting MY IGN-8 ignition box as it was made for the GM 58x (60-2 in 1986) Target Wheel as I was a member of the inventor team. (US Patent expired 2006)
This is what we PML/Wegner used when the LS "carbe" intakes were designed/dyno tested for GMPP.
The COST would be lower with better Spark Accuracy. (24xe = 2 degrees/58x = 1/4 degree accuracy)
THOSE who state a 24xe change is just BAD TECH.
The IGN-8 box ALSO has TWO GPIO's great for NOS, VVT, etc.
I would fit a Single Chain, my Avon Gear part as this is stronger that a DR.
