4.8 cam suggestion My dad has a 94 Chevy 4x4 extended cab with a 4.8, nv3500 5 speed, 3.73 gears and stock height tires. It is a back up vehicle that is mostly a freeway flier and used at low speeds on his property. Occasionally it will tow a small trailer. He rarely exceeds 3000 rpm. We are looking to pick up low end torque. He has no desire to do a gear change or change to headers so a cam swap is his best option.
What do you guys recommend that won't kill his freeway mpg?

IF 3k RPM is rarely exceeded, the stock cam might be best. The only other cam would be one from the LQ9 6.0 engine. It will gain you decent power, and only lose a slight amount of low end power.
This tsp truck stg 1 low lift cam is perfect. It meets all your needs. Use the pac1218 springs though.

Correct the LQ9 is also the same as the 2001-04 LS1 cam
Works really well in the 4.8/5.3
If a new cam is preferred, then you could call Cam Motion for something in the
195/205 @ .050" range, new valve springs are suggested along with an LS2
timing chain (uses factory gears) and a new oil pump as well

No it will be ok. Those lobes are pretty weak so you wont see the torque of that tsp cam, but its still a nic cam. Do yourself a favor though, do not use the ls6 springs. Use the pac1218. Less noisy and alot higher quality and better pressure.

^This! 212/218 is going to give up a bit of low speed tq which is not what you want to do for your intended application. The only way to truly increase low speed tq under 3k is with more cubes.
