So 8k plus good heads when its all said and done....as far as the engine is concerned anyways. I was just curious because I'm not sure if I want to go FI or NA when I start modding again this summer. You've got yourself a beast! I don't need to get that fast quite yet!

You can't go wrong either way. Just always plan on it costing a little more then what everyone tells you. It's all the little stuff that makes it expensive in the end.

I have almost $18,000 in mine. Which includes two complete top ends from heads to intake and two sets of rods, one set of which was stolen from me by Joe Prince. Along with two timing chains and cams and bearings and oil pump.............What a lowlife.

If I can make around 480RWHP and run low 11's or high 10's after a stroker package, that may be the route I go this summer.

Does adding bore vs. stroke affect power differently?

like, does more stroke = more torque on a same-cubed engine?

More stroke=more torque.

With a similar setup to Derty, only a 393 (all bore, offset ground stock crank), I ran a 11.1 NA on a nitrous built motor with a nitrous tune. It was nice, until it went BOOM on the juice & threw a rod. So now I'm laying low also.

A big cube would be nice. Still trying to figure out what I can afford.

Those with big cube aluminum blocks: Does this add any weight to the car?

i.e.:
stroker kit: more weight?
re-sleeved block (more bore): more weight?

Or, now that I think about it, do any of those actually subtract weight?

The difference will really be seen when race cams are thrown in these motors. The development that is happening with the 346 crowd is aweseome and when this development transfers over the the big storke/bore guys it will really be aweseom.

346 Development is signficantly cheaper under every category because you don't have thousands tied up in a block or a crank and you can abuse stock rods and pistons pretty regularly. Even if you just changed rods and pistsons a stock motor configuration will always be cheaper and therefore easier to develop on. That being said, if you don't want to spend a ton of money stick with the stock displacement. Because it can get expensive quickly. The rewards are well worth it though.

As far as strokers, the cranks can weigh a little more. The big bore blocks depend on weight (dry vs wet). But the weight is negligible, maybe no more then a trip to McDonalds on race day.

Agreed, plus there is just more of them around. When you build a bigger motor you tend to use better parts however that can deal with 7000+ rpm much better then a stock 346 can so why not put a cam in that will take that motor that high. Ofcourse not everyone is interested in getting the maxiumum performance out of these motors either. Hell almost any 400+ motor will make at least 430rwhp and this is more then enough for most people.

Ok, that's what I thought. But then why do people bother with all-bore set-ups? Is it like free cubes with the same redline capabilities?

I agree 100%. I've been hoping that some shop would take the lead on cam r&d for strokers. Guess there isn't enough money in it.

Holding stroke the same, with a larger bore you can rev higher and make power higher in the RPM.

With increased bore and stroke you get the benefits of both.

Sounds like the big motors are like h/c 346 with a 100 shot all the time.

And better drivability. I'm personally going to run a 200 shot on mine, for highway purposes only

Better driveability, man you just need to put a bigger cam in here. It'll fix that drivability problem and make you faster. If you aint starting at the 260 plus duration and 108 and lower lsa's then you will have excellent driveability with almost any cam choice smaller within reason (244/250 on a 102 lsa does not apply). One day I will have a 400 plus inch motor of my own. Wooohooo.
