Default stroker questions

I am not that familiar with the bottom end of the LS1 or any engine for that matter and had a few questions as I am considering a stroker motor for my car in the next 2-3 years(maybe sooner depending on cash flow).Anyways, what is an "all stroke" motor vs. an "all bore" motor? Is there any pros/cons of getting one over the other? Is one more reliable/durable than the other? Does one make more hp/tq than the other, etc? I am also going to be using N20 on the stroker, so obviously forged internals is the way to go? Do I need a forged crank? And last but not least(this may also be personal preference), but who makes the best internals for a stroker kit?
thanks in advance.

all stroke is all stroke(up/down distance).. all bore is all bore(piston/cyl diameter)... haha... sorry... I think max on either done singularly is 390's??cid... they run about the same $$$ but.. best might be an iron block bore and stroke..

so would all stroke be the better route(for durability) considering that all bore would be removing alot of material from the block/cylinder walls?

not necessarily.. on the alum. block you HAVE to sleeve it to go big bore $$$.. on iron block you can do a little more, plus its already a larger bore..

an eagle cranked stroker kit will be the best bang for the buck.. if they have them figured out, I haven't been following it..

so lets say I pick up a used 6.0liter block, what size crank(stroke) would I need and how much machine work(bore) would I need to get a 408cid?

You really have to ask yourself what you want from your car. Strokers will give you more torque and All Bore will give you more HP. Either way your car should be a lot faster than it was before. Keep in mind also that the motor is a tuned system. You will need heads and a cam that compliment the bottom end you built to realize your gains.

I want a beefy tq curve with a good mid to top end hp. I have a G5X2 that I will be using in my current motor and might possibly carry over to the stroker(if it's not too small?) and plan on getting the AFR 225's after they come out. basically 500+rwhp/480+rwtq

An all bore would probably suit your needs/wants. You can build a 408 for about the same price as a 383. I chose to build a 383 stroker because I wanted to keep the aluminum block.

what are the specs of your G5X2 cam? 500rwhp out of a 383 is a lot of power to expect w/o big flowing head and a BIG cam.

G5X2: 232/240 .595/.608 112lsa. I was planning on a 408 with AFR 225's

My cam is around there (little smaller) and I have a 383 4.0" stroker LS6 heads flow 305 @ .600. Made 455/442 tuned. If you want a big rwhp number you better get a BIG cam. I'm guessing 245/252 something. Call Alan Futral.
