From what I'm finding, the Speedmaster doesn't come with a reluctor wheel and is external balance?

Having no reluctor is a plus if you need to add weight. They should balance fine internally with a little mallory metal.

Read on Yellow Bullet it cost someone $500 to balance a Speedmaster/Pro Comp crank due to all the machining & Mallory. Is that typical?

Average balance cost in N. Ga. is about $250, that’s without Mallory, which is VERY expensive. I don’t think that number is very far off base, if Mallory is needed. Depends on crank bob weight and piston/rod weight choices.

Speedmaster cast stroker crank for say $280 + $500 to balance it + $50 to put a reluctor wheel on it + $25 for a reluctor wheel = $835 for a usable cast stroker crank

Callies Compstar forged crank for $777 + $250 to balance = $1,027 for a usable forged stroker crank

~ $192 saving to go cast? For $200 or so more, I'd rather have the Compstar.

If you know your bobweight, some vendors can even get Callies to balance it before it ships for no charge.

That would make it a no-brainer compared to a cast crank.
