Default Speedmaster ls1 cast stroker crank.

Well I wanna see what all the fuss is about because they have em for $190.88 shipped no reluctor wheel. I ordered it Monday night from one of their shady eBay stores, shipped FedEx the next day and it's gonna be ready for pickup in the morning where it's gonna be taken directly to my machine shop to get looked at. It seems like they do sell them but after weeks of looking none who's bought one has posted any info on it.
I did find an old thread on the bullet talking about how someone had picked up on one of the first over seas cast cranks and how much work it needed but this is a 10 year old thread.
Things I'm supposed to be looking for. Journals being out of round /improperly indexed and if the reluctor ring seat is there. I've heard the the forged stuff is supposed to be better. In those areas but none who actually owns the stuff.
I guess Ima find out if it works or if I just learned a $200 lesson lol.

Overall, the Speedmaster name does not have a good rep around here. There must be a reason....

I've seen broken junk and bad parts Im just really curious because like I said it seems like they do sell them. I mean jegs even has em on their page.
I guess I'm cheap over all though.
Ive been working on finishing my splayed valve pst motor for 8 months already and I need a cheap motor for my 95 z28. I'm just tired of the lt1s already.
With all the photobucket nonsense how are we posting pics these days?

Picked it up today and not gonna lie all the machining looks pretty good, no scuffs or scratches on any of the polished surfaces. The machine shop is closed weekends so it still needs to go have the journal sizes, roundness and indexing checked but all n all it looks pretty solid. The reluctor ring step is indeed machined so thats one thing I won't need to worry about. The packaging leaves PLENTY to be desired no instructions, part number, receipt or ANYTHING in the boxes, it shipped double cardboard boxed with packing paper in a plastic bag and some preservative/rust preventative . I think had it needed to go much further than it did it would have eventually come out of the box. Still no idea on how to go about posting pics.

What exactly is this? A 4" stroke cast crank for ls engines? If this turns out to be worth a poot, these should sell like candy...

Yup 4" stroke for 6.125 rods. I'm hoping it turns out to be what I ordered lol . As I said there is nothing in the package indicating what it is I was supposed to receive and where it came from. I'm not knowledgeable enough to measure anything beyond the journal diameter with my calipers. They sell one cast crank and 3 different forged ones. The only cast ls crank is 4" stroke for 6.125 rods and standard size journals.

I'm interested to see how this turns out also...

They have 4.00" forged listed too.

Well first let me put my deciding to order this thing into a little perspective. I had considered getting a eagle crank for sbc build a while back but my machine shop recommended against them. Said they had had bad experiences recently with not being able to get them to balance out and some of the clearances being more than alittle off. Now eagle stuff isn't callies or even lunati forged stuff for that matter but if qc is just bad all round in the under $200 cast crank category I figured why not give it a shot.

The real problem in this sketchy area I'm working in is that even if my crank turns outto be good whos to say the next guys is gonna be?

Speedmaster is still procomp electronics. I mean just look at the part numbers they all start with "PCE" and the shipping label says shipped from procomp. Even under different company names all of it still ships from rialto california. The issue with them will always be their qc and until they step it up buying their junk will always be a gamble.

That being said I really do hope it works. For 190 its a steal if it does and not all of us can afford a $700 forged crank for budget 383s n such. If it checks out I'm ordering a set of their ls rods and topping em with dss stroker flat tops.

I need to clean out all the threading so I can test fit all the bolts. There is dust and shavings in every one but the threading looks ok. The pics are from my Iphone if anyone wants better ones or anything specific lemme know and I'll take em with the hd cam.

Would you weigh the crank please and share the results?

Thank you for the pictures.

I'm interested to see how it turns out, but my main worry is that it won't even be as strong as the factory crank.

If this is just N/A, that might not be an issue.

For real, some Scat pro comp rods, cheap pistons, this crank and an iron block and you can have a 408 for less than $2000 give or take. I'd definitely buy one if it works out for him.

He might as well throw in some Speedmaster H beams and DSS pistons.

Full rotating assembly for less than $1000.

If the crank measures out I actually will go with the procomp electronics rods. The only part of the roatating assembly that's "legit" proven will be the dss pistons lol.The 100,000 mile original aluminum 2000' trans am short block was only $200 bucks because the starter tab was trashed but I'm getting the 2nd sucks kit to fix that. So yeah a 383 stroker assembly for nothin if it works out.
Yes it will be an N/a set up for the most part. I have 50-200 shot kit I'll try out just for kicks after I get it running in my 95 z28 6peed car.

The old roatating assembly is going in a 4.8 now 5.7( used 5.7 rods and crank with new pistons) I donated to my little cousin who's in high school for skills USA that I bought to steal the heads from for my hauler.

I gave the kids in his class my 95 trans am lt1 car to put the iron ls 5.7 into as well. Gotta love being young with all the time in the world to mess around with your projects.

Default Bob Weight

Hi Ed, your crank pictures are great, you may have a good crankshaft.

I would call Speedmaster, they have good tech support.

What is your intended use ?
What is the Bob Weight ?
You WILL need 1835+ (common is 1850)
You will need a TW, hopefully a 58x (60-2)
You could need Forged Rods ?
You could need Forged Pistons ?

I have these items ?
